Good afternoon,
It is that time to replace my 150w MH bulbs. There are a lot on the market and was wondering what everyone was using.

My aquarium is as follows.

75 gallon mixed (mostly soft and lps)
30 gallon sump

Secondly, I wanted to share with everyone something that occured with my tank. Originally when I started this tank I was using power compacts. With the pw's I had incredible coraline algae growth. Then I switched to my halides and the coraline died off and I have not been able to grow it any more. The PC had blues along with the white bulbs. Could the loss of the blues affected my coraline growth?

Im currently running 2x14k Ushios. I'm not a fan as they are kind of yellow. I had actinics but no longer. The MH unit I received was second hand and for a good price (Current USA for 199) and didn't have actinic option.

i use the radium which is my fav. color is white/ slight blue i also like the ushio 20k which white slight purple/blue these are running on a pfo electronic balllast. bulbs are not easy to recommend due to a personal preference in the color they put out but if you are looking for white /slight blue =radium white /slight blue/purple =ushio 20k
good luck ,mike

I use current too. When I was looking for a Halide it was the cheapest. It is a sun pod 150w. If i could go back i would spend the extra $50 for the 250w. It is allmost time for me to change my bulb too. I was told that reef lux makes good halide bulbs, but they are expensive. About $70 for a 150w online not from a store. If you want more blue i would suggest geting a 14k or something higher. 10k is more on the white/yellow spectrum, but it epends on your preference. If i was you i would get another 10k bulb and retro fit the actinics from your old unit onto your tank with the halide.
