I am going to use an external pump for my new 65G tank and I need to install a bulkhead fitting on the sump.
I have the 3/4" fitting.
I am trying to make sure I use the right size holesaw for the fitting but I am not sure which size and type.
Do I use one desiged for wood with a pilot bit?
Aslo the outer diameter of the fitting seems to be 15/8".
Do I use a 11/2" bit?

Try on a piece of cardboard first

DO NOT DRILL the tank before trying the hole saw on a piece of cardboard and fit it with your bulkhead. Hole saw for wood would also work with plexi glass.

I used a 1 1/2" hole saw for my 3/4" bulkheads and it fit fine. Just make sure that the gasket of the bulkhead is seated correctly and centered when installed. As far as what kind of hole saw I have no idea. I have glass so I used a diamond coated bit.

Easiest way is to just slide the bi-metal hole saw core bit over the threads of the hole saw. Use the one that is the tightest fit but still slides over it. The gasket is bigger than the threaded section of the bulkhead and will cover the opening just fine.
