Sweet link to DIY turf scrubber

Well here it is. $40 (minus the pump that i had (mag5) )later and a little time to put it all together and seed it with a tiny little bit of hair algae i had growing just above my water line and were off. Here is a pic of day 1 and ill put up pics as they come.

Here we are on day 3. Startin to get some brown showin up. Woo Hoo! Wont be long now before i can ditch the skimmer.

it sure is, its like a plastic place matt. i got it at ac more. but check out the link they have tons of ideas. its quite long and full of a lot of good info and ideas.

the screen is the layout for needle point. ac moor an places like that you buy big peices.
I have looked into the whole turf scrubber just never ventured into doing it. switch and the rest good luck with it.

ok so all u doing is letting the turf grown on the screen and this will help with your po4? no3? and skimmer less?

Correct, hey slama what kind of light is that, it definatly doesnt look strong enough.

you have to read the link, but essentially yes. you have to clean one side of the screen of algae at least once a week. the algae uses up the phos and trate so when you scrape it off and pull it out its gone from the tank forever.

slama, save a little coin and make less heat by switching to cf's 25 or 30 watt. also throw another light on the other side. also black absorbs all light wavelengths. you will have more light reflecting back to the algae if you use white background. just some thoughts. Also to everyone i highly suggest going threw the better portion of the link because there are a lot of good ideas to beef up the scrubber check out the last 10 or so pages.

Here are some shots of mine, the screen two weeks ago was completely matted but I had done a tank swap and didnt even notice that the pin on the timer to turn on the light was missing so this is what I have now.
