These things work great according to everyone that uses one.

There was a good article on a DIY one that someone posted that did experiments on how much Po4 and No3 it reduced on what type tank and other people chimed in according to how much Sq. Ft. is needed per tank size.

Its messy because of an adjustment I made, not because of the nature of the setup. Plus I never cleaned anything down when I swapped tanks so thats why everything looks like a saltcreep A-bomb went off.

Honestly I have not tested the levels because there has not been consistency with the tank. Also haven't done a water change in about 9 months but had to do one a few weeks ago because I went from my 50 breeder which the scrubber originated from back to the 72 gallon bow. I will say that when I set up the scrubber on the 50 after about 3 weeks when the algae culture started to take hold on the screen my cyano disappeared about 2 weeks later and no hair algae. Now at that time I failed to clean the screen and the cyano and hair came back so for the skimmer guys yeah you can empty a cup compared to cleaning a screen but when you clean your skimmers you have weird corners and stuff. we just have a flat surface. Initially the alternative filtering method has shown me some promise. my corals also seemed to like the ATF also, they just appear to be happier, extention and growth was very noticeable when the ATF got a foot hold in the tank. But I am still not selling my Urchin Skimmer. Wish I had some better results for you guys and hard evidence. Oh, its also very very quiet and it removed a pump from my electric bill.

Your welcome, I personally like running the ATF, but I tend to try to make my tanks as naturalistic as possible so thats why I went with it. And i thought I could save on electric but then I realized I am removing a pump to add a fuge light. oh well. The only complaint really is that I really havnt had much time recently to test for po and stuff to validate its purpose. the only "proof" was in the beginning but i goofed and didnt clean the screen. I would recommend it to people but I wouldnt say it could replace skimmers all together. I think maybe a perfect setup would be an ATF/skimmer combo where instead of running a super powerful skimmer you can probably throttle back a few models down and how them work with each other. There are just some things that an ATF cant remove such as the "oil slick" on the tank surface. At some point I want to do a refugium/skimmer/atf combo i think that would work really really well.

Yeah its like 1 gallon of tank you need 100 sq inches of material. so my tank being a 72 which the fuge I need an 11x 11 piece. something like that not sure on the actually conversion. And you need to run both sides not just one. if you want to run one side you have to make that piece 22 x 11 and still use the two lights. Thats the only thing wrong in terms of the traditional ATF setup with all the pics, including mine. my second light blew and havnt gotten a replacement yet. trying to figure out if the current-usa led moduales would be strong enough because then that means I am saturate the screen top to bottom and I would only be using 16 watts total. I have been on a huge electrical audit of my tanks recently.

Oh I also noticed that the ATF runs and does its job much better if you run it traditionally against the DT lighting. I think that was the one thing my research with ATFs didnt do, they all ran them with DT lighting. But different tanks different results I guess.

one place used to sell them but there was a patent issue so no more, plus they are expensive and if you want to put it like under the stand you would have to get rid of the sump pretty much.

Hey Switch your really making some friends on the other thread huh?
