Hello,

Not sure if I'm 100% sure of this but I may be thinking about switching a koralia 4 for a koralia 2. Great PH but i think it may be too much flow. I have 2 Koralia 4'2 in my 90 gal but it seems that no matter where i put the second one it blows my guys away so up for suggestions.

you may not be setting them up right. I have two 4's in my 75 gallon tank and my fish are fine. I don't think a 4 and 2 will be enough flow.

Can you possibly post a pic of where you have them placed? I'm sure you'll gets lots of suggestions :)

2 K 4's should be fine in a 90. What is blowing around..your fish or corals?

Hey...pic attached that I took a few weeks ago. I need to take a new one to show a few frags I got. I'm finding that no matter where I put the one on the right that its really strong and kind of making some of the frags whip rather than sway...like a little frogspawn frag that I had in the center. Also, I just added to Onyx last night and being that they are rather small I worried that the koralia on the right side will blow them away. Of course the K4 has also been the cause of a lot of sand being stirred up and flying around.

Maybe its the aquascaping thats the problem. The only place my frags can be out of direct whipping flow is at the bottom right side of the tank.

I have 2 in my 75g and am thinking about adding another one for more flow. Mine are positioned similarly to yours, but a bit higher, and I tend to point them towards the surface. This gives me plenty of flow, great surface agitation, and isn't too strong.

Keep in mind that corals can and will adapt to change, and the K4s don't compare to the force of the ocean. Don't put them somewhere for 10 minutes and move them, let the corals adapt to the flow and usually they'll be fine. Just make sure that the powerheads aren't pointed directly at a coral.

OK I mean I've been trying but even with pointing them upwards I see some corals getting a whipping flow rather than a smooth flow. Maybe its the Aquascaping...

Send me a pic of your tank so I can see... please.

topmav, I have to agree with beerfish recommendations.

My tank is 155 gallons, I am running 4 #4 Koralias with 2 return pumps - 1 eheim 1260 & 1 Iwaki 40rlt. Here is what I eventually found worked best for my system.
I have 2 koralias on the back wall pointed as far up as they go about 6" down, and the 2 other ones are placed on the side walls facing each other, but again pointed to the surface as well. My loclines are 2 out of each overflow so 2 of the loclines are at the surface, and the 2 on the outer are pointed towards the front glass. See if that helps.

Hey Awi,

Looking at your thread it seems that your k's have an "extra" piece screwed on to the front giving it a more focused flow. I cropped a pic from your tank and zoomed in on the K4. Right now mine look like the other pic attached and the flow goes outward to the left and right but I think i do have this "extra" piece in the box...does that go on the front or am I seeing things?

The concentrator will make a bif difference in the flow pattern. I too have my 4's on opposite sides of my 125 poitning up and towards each other. I also have a couple of MJ1200 with the larger impeller on the back wall pointing across the tank and towards the front glass.

Hi,
Sorry but from the photo you DO have the concentrator on. I have a 30 reef in my kitchen had 2 nanos in it for flow. Swapped 1 out for a 2 and had to run it upwards across the tank without the concentrator or my tree corals and Xenia looked like they were in a hurricane. Good luck w your setup and try to remove the extra piece, I'm pretty sure you'll find it on if picture is accurate only Koralia nano has that fixed on.

The actual tank photo with the concetrator on is not my tank...its awibrandy's. Thats how I noticed that i didn't have mine on. Anyway, put them on tonight and hoping things work better.

thanks for the help.
