Can Anyone tell me What this is in my Fuge?

I am attaching a pic. Not sure if its Caulerpa or cheato? I got it with the tank. It seems to be running fine except that it looks like its dying. There is miracle mud in the fuge. I don't want to take the mud out but I will replace the algae thats in there.

mine just turned white and died an i threw it out.. i only use chaeto now.. grows like wild fire and a great place for pods to cultivate

Chaeto doesn't root, so it doesn't care about the substrate. It's a clumpy ball of curly algal strands. It's a lot less attractive-looking than caulerpa, but a lot more convenient.

If you were lighting your fuge 24/7 with caulerpa, don't do that with chaeto; it needs a dark period.

i dont think he meant abt rooting.. i just use the finest sand/mud i can find in my fuge for the best anerobic properties for denitrification.. and also the micro stars like to bury themselves
