I am sure there is a calculatir out there somewhere, but rule of thumb for me is 30% of tank volume should be sump. I have a 30 on m 92 and it is great.
The bigger that better. It all depends on what your going to place in the sump. The larger the sump the larger the protein skimmer you can place in it. Also you can section off part of the sump and include a refugium.
hey, i have a standard 65 AGA. i use a standard 15 gallon aga sump in the stand. i partitioned the tank so i could use part of it as a refuge. on the other half, i have a euro-reef es5-2 running and a rio 1700 return. there's just enough room for everything. at first i thought it would be too small, but it's just right. i couldn't fit any bigger tanks in the stand b/c i didn't make the door openings big enough when i built it. HTH.
