Dumb question about moonlight LEDs

So my jbj came with two 1 watt moon lights. They look really good but are way to bright. I actually took a cap and covered one of the LEDs but tank still is bright. My fish don't seem to like it but corals do. I also like the night view. Is it okay if use like a black marker of nail polish over led to dim it some?
