Just purchased 2 clowns, decorative fire fish, and yellow watchman goby today. Guy at LFS told me to feed them mysis shrimp, so I bought a frozen pack. I just fed them flake food before and they seem to be fine with flake food. Any suggestions out there?

Thank you ~James

They should be fed a mix of foods so they have a balanced diet.

IMO best to feed mysis, flake or pellet (is usually a 'staple' food meaning it contains the necessary vitamins & minerals they need), and most any other raw fish you can get at the market.

Vary the meals, and don't overdo any 1 particular food.
Pellets & flake tend to contain phosphates(as do most of the cubed packages packed in 'gel') and will foul your water faster.

A good flake food is fine as the basis for the diet of a fish that'll eat it. However, getting frozen food is also good, as it provides nutritional elements which aren't as available in prepared food -- and the fish love it.

Go with a marine mysid shrimp. PE Mysis is freshwater. H2OLife Mini-Mysis and Hikari Mysis are actually marine mysids. There're others, but you've gotta check the packaging or do some research online.

I like alternating or mixing frozen mysis and cyclop-eez. The latter provide lots of HUFAs and pigments that fish and corals can use.
