If you are going to try and raise the MG to get rid of it - you need to raise it SLOWLY (read the directions on the bottle!!) over a period of days to a week.
My understanding is you need to raise it to 1700 for this purpose. There are a few threads on RC on this topic, some state they have safely raised it to almost 2000.

Also it must be Kent Tech M - no other brands of MG have this affect on bryopsis.

If it makes you feel any better - bryopsis won't grow in a tank without having been introduced in some way. It is also the algae that makes more reefers quit the hobby than any other :(

just use kent tech-M. not just any mag supplement. i think it's supposed to be upwards of 1600 as jaa1456 stated. raise it very slowly. it worked in my system, and i didn't even reach the suggested 1600. mine was about 1400 when i saw the briopsis falling apart.

white bulbs have red in the spectrum. as bulbs get older, they start to shift more red. that's why old bulbs are usually associated with algae blooms.
