had this beautiful trigger for 2 years now.yesterday she ate and was swimming around like always.she let me pet her like always when i woke up this morning she looked like what appeared to be marine velvet and was gasping and on her side and died 1/2 hour later.nothing added to tank in awhile.what the hell could have happened

Don't fish have a protective slime on them to protect them from bacterias, fungus, some parasites and contaminates? I know you might think it is harmless to be petting a fish like a cat or dog but I would strongly advise against it. Your hands have oil and could possibly have other toxins that you are not aware of that you might have touched prior to "petting" the fish.

There is a good reason why if you touch a baby bird in the wild the mother will not take it back
