How often should i replenish my copepods? i know they come in the live rock and hopefully they are doing their thing to reproduce more but my lfs doesnt have them all the time. When they do should i take advantage?:
Are you trying to sustain a population for a food source for a fish? I order copepods from 'livecopepods.com' about every 3 three months and toss them in my sump. I have a scooter dragonet who eats copepods and now cyclopeeze (yea!). BUt I don't know if you need to have a poplulation of them if no one eats them.
Do you have a refugium with chaeto? How much live rock do you have? Both help copepods replenish. I've had my mandarin for three months and have replenished the pods only once and he has grown fat. But I think I may replenish mine about now as well to ensure the population is still thriving. You can order chaeto from someones sump off of ebay and it will prob have pods (you can ask them). I ordered chaeto from an ebay member for 5 dollars and received two large clumps that had been seeded the day before with pods.
What is chaeto? I want them for my mandarin. I've had him about a month and a half. Hewas getting skinnybut he seems to be ok. There is a store on 37th and 3rd I have to check them out.
Cheato is a macroalgae. Some people use it to help control nitrates plus it provides a place for little creatures to hang out and reproduce without being bothered. If you have a sump, buy a ball and toss it in there. Just be careful when buying pods, a lot of LFS's sell tiggerpods which are cold water pods and do not live long term in your tank.
