Bubble Magus issues

I borrowed a Bubble Magus from my friend and I'm having some issues. I put my 2 ATO sensors at a min and max level very close to each other so that the level remains fairly even at all times so the skimmer won't freak out like it has been doing. I put the collection cup tube into a 5 gallon bucket just in case. This morning I woke up to that bucket filled to the top and almost overflowing. Meaning the skimmer went crazy and pulled out about 5 gallons of water which also left my ATO reserve empty. Anyone else having this problem with this skimmer? Can't let this keep happening.

Suggestions?

Witch BM skimmer you have ?. I have a BM NAC7 and never had this problem.

Not exactly sure but looks most like the NAC5 or NAC5A from looking at the website. Could it be the pump bugging out from an internal issue and not the level??

ESV 2 part Alk/Cal.
Can that be it? Normally I put it in the return chamber separate from the skimmer.

No that would def. not do it.
Some supplements increase surface tension. But not 2 part IME.

I don't add anything else to the sump.

This one isn't the NAC. I think it was the older ones that are now replaced by the NAC series.

I believe your skimmer not broken in yet thats why you are getting a overflow now and then just keep the leave really low for now for 2 week the skimmer should be broken in by then

It was used on my friends tank for about 6 months then he broke down his tank so it was used for about 4 months...

Yeah but you cleaned it the bac film has to build up in the skimmer again then it will stop whats it doing

and also make sure that you dont have any salt buildup in the venturi holes mine clogged up and overflowed till i figured that one out
