Just wondering how many of you guys and girls on here started out like myself with a fish only system, with no intension of having anything to do with coral? and what was the reason for the change of heart? my change was when one of my buddies gave me a setup that already had some pieces in it. now i cant picture having a tank without it :groupflip

I started with a Fowlr, with just some triggers many moons ago lol. I have had reefs since 94 my freshman year in Highschool but had my Fowlr in 7th grade. A 55 gallon tank. My father got me involved into saltwater, since he has been keeping them since 82 from what he told me. His first reef was in 87, and I soon followed after keeping a Fowlr for 2 years.

Corals and fish are the complete package corals have been around for millions of year and look as beautiful now as they did then I can only imagine. Reef tanks are awesome

Fish only tanks look like they are missing something

I've ha dmany FW tanks and than went reef right away! I didnt bother with the FO only cause I got into the corals so much. Now, after having the reef for 2 years, Im thinkin of doin a FOWLR in the future. I really want to keep some fish that cant go in reefs.

I just got into this hobby last April, with a FOWLR, Cause I use to see corals as underwater gardening. by December I got rid of my 55g FOWLR and now I'm in the process of setting up a 90g mix reef :) and wouldn't have it any other way.

I started a fowlr in the early 90s.
I shut it down after a couple years.
I couple years ago I started up again determined to get into coral. It is so much easier and more varied now than back then. But I was still nervous buying that first yellow polyp rock.
I did it because of amount of life they add.

I actually started with a red ear slider in a 30 breeder 10 years ago. Now I have two reef tanks and a FOWLR. Oh, and still have a turtle tank as well, but with a Carolina diamond back terrapin.

The beauty and diversity of saltwater fish, and reefs in particular is what drew me to it. The commitment they require kept me from jumping into saltwater sooner.
