just wondering what the people who run the asm g2 skimmers think of it.what size tank you have it on and what size pump are you running with it.

really? when i first started this hobby i remember everyone raving about the asm series.i guess they went downhill since the last time i was in the market for a skimmer

ok i will do it this way, a new asm g3 is $320, they are cheaply made material wise, the seals leak 99% of the time , and the design is outdated to a degree, do they work ? yes they do, but for the money there are so many more skimmers that are built better , perform better and are more efficient. ive own the asm g3 twice and a asm g2 as well as 17 or so other skimmers, honestly duke id get the sedra 5000 for the er 135 and see it is a vast improvement, and actually seen one f\s on RC, btw i always say the same thing about them, not telling people to thrown them in the trash, but to me alot other choices that are much better for the money
they are not Junk IMHO. they are inexpensive and are effective for the price point. there are better skimmers with superior construction and more efficient pumps on the market. the design is a direct copy of the euro reef with a mass produced poly body. it can leak but they are in sump only...so that is not an issue. I have heard good things about the octopus line. you may want to consider asking about them. Please keep in mind the skimmer basics has not really changed in 40 years. it still and always be a mixture of air and water and its contact time. the challenge is to get as much air and contact time with the water as efficiently as possible. different brands just approach this differently. good luck with your decision.

close but it isnt a direct copy of the euroreefs, owned about 5 or 6 of those also, and for $320 new for a asmg3 how do you figure in-expensive compared to others in it's class and beyond that are less or same price ?

oh and btw leaking through the seals does effect performance and cause salt creep
Just in comparison to some in the 500+ range that so many seem to talk about and like. I do think and stated that he may be better served looking at the Octopus line. the only true plus with the ASM is the availability of parts.
From my experience I have not had the seals leak once with mine and every time I feed I feel like it takes out absolutely everything from the water. I don't find it to be a crappy skimmer IMO

hey noob what about the vertex in 180.i see you liked your vertex so i looked into it.and they are alot cheaper then the asm

well i guess i have owned alot of other skimmers to compare it too, when u have only had a couple or sub par skimmers it seems to be a great skimmer, ive had around 20 skimmers from BK down
