NY Aquaria: Lots of LPS and softies; a pair of Picasso clownfish, true black perculas, hybrid clownfish (looked like a cross between a false percula and citron goby :scratch: ), several healthy looking Flame Angels, 6-line wrasses and a multicolor angel.

They are on 38th st, East of the corner of 38th & 3rd. Midtown

Nice stock Of fish and coral- somethings a bit pricey, but it is Midtown, so for its location some things aren't too bad.
Staff is cool and very helpful.
They do have there lil' sales

They also have have some exotic LS for those that like the out of the ordinary.

Reef Fantasy in Staten Island just received a large shipment of fish. Nice people there and they know their stuff. I picked up a kole tang and coral banded shrimp.

The are encouraging people to buy three hippo tangs by offering a single price for trio, un-informed people would think it is okay to buy three of them since the store is selling it that way. They have no clue three hippos will not live and grow in a 55 gallon tank too long.

i concur with cali. whats even more disturbing is some Retailers will offer them as a trio anyway (even if they know the avg customer won't be equipped to house that trio) because that's the way the retailers are buying them on sale in 3 lot, 6 lot, 12 lot, etc, and the marine fish industry is still dominated (and perpetuated) by such stores that stick to the wholesale "HOT POTATO" philosophy from the poor hunter-gatherer all the way unfortunately through to the retail end user point. hello, retails supposed to be about education and quality, not quantity, LFS's, wtf's goin on???

between the wall vaults and wholesale-lot-to-the-public combos, and "come buy we're getting a new shipment today but we don't quarantine nor do we guarantee it because you're better off than acclimating it than us" at the LFS's recently, i'm noticing a disturbing trend. (Happens to be a major concern now recognized by the American Marinelife Dealers Assoc)

maybe i should limit my new procurements to neon gobies and clownfish?

But I totally understand what you mean, just posting what I remember them having. In no way am I saying to purchase anything.

When one purchases anything the basic LS should always apply
Observe what u r getting? Does it appear Health or not?
Are their tanks health? How many dead fish do you see aT aglance (especially if it is the middle of the day, Morning Maint.?)
Is the vendor none for Ill-fated LS (Petland D...) ?
Is it right for your Tank?
ETC...ETC...ETC...

ie someone mentioned petland discounts. does that mean petland discounts is the ONLY bad LFS we agree on? lol

this topic is about "what's available at LFS" maybe it's just me, getting back into the hobby, back into the pet stores to "See whats available" it gets to me what net effect our hobby has on the already grim environment (still).
