Which mag?

Just need a little help deciding which Mag to get for the return to my 30 gallon. It's going to be a mixed reef. I was thinking the mag5 or mag7. Which one would you guys go with?

depends on your overflow. if it can handle it go for the mag7

if u go with a 7 make sure the water pressure is spread out with a spry bar or something.

I use a mag5 on a 25G, the 7 was too much flow through the smaller sump. If you want more return flow the QuietOne 3000 is another good choice, less money, less heat, more GPH. Im using this pump on a closed loop for a year with no problems.
All 3 are good return pumps.

3/4" Loc-Line and a round nozzle wont put back pressure on the pump JMO.

yesseongs i heard that quietone was noisy. What do you think of it? is it silent?

The mag 7 is cheaper than the quietone 3000 by about $15. I think I'm gonna go with the mag7. The overflow is 600gph so I guess after head loss it will be just about perfect. The mag 7 pumps 750gph and plus its only $6 more than the mag 5.

What size sump would you guys go with on my 30 gallon? 15g?20g?30g?

Wedrf, its very quiet.
nanoreefer, If you can get a mag7 for $30 thats a great price.
The QO is easer to clean, and is 40 watts, the mag is 70 watts.
Just a thought, less heat in a 30g. IMO both are good pumps.

BTW, the mag7 is 700GPH

Im using a 15g sump. It fits my EuroReef skimmer, cheato and a decent size area for the return pump. I was tight on space.

I was looking around and I saw that the Quietone 3000 was like $67. Do you know where I can get it for $45?

Do some research on the pump before you buy it, there are a lot of people happy with it.
