In my Aqueon ProFlex Model 3 sump there is a large blue foam block in the 2nd chamber (separating the center refugium compartment from the R/H compartment where the skimmer and return pump normally go). Am I supposed to leave this in? It's still there. Water is not actually flowing throughit but actually over it...just wondering if it's going to become a detritus trap (and eventually a nitrate factory)?

It's up to you. If water seems to be flowing around it. It is clogged up.
If you decide to keep it in the sump, you should take it out and rinse it once a week.

Sorry for the delay. Here's a pic of the sump. You can see the blue foam piece in the last compartment.

There is a clear Lexan wall separating the middle section from the last section (you can see it near the bottom, held in place by white Nylon hardware) which effectively cuts off circulation through the foam, and sort of causes water to flow over it. It looks like I don't really need the foam but just want some opinions.

Thanks.

Well if u take out the foam from your sump. Your main tank will start to water bubble coming from the sump. I just bought foam for my sump and all my water bubbles are gone. Thats up to you if you want to take it off. I already told you what will happen to your main tank afterwords.

In the photo I posted, water flows from left to right as follows:

1. Down through the downspout (long white tube on left).
2. Up the clear tube surrounding the white downspout and over the top black plate.
3. Down into each filter sock.
4. Up and over the "spillway" (grey line) into center refugium chamber.
5. Up and over black wall on right-hand side of center refugium chamber, and down over the blue foam.
6. Finally, over the black wall immediately to the right of the foam.
7. Finally, up into return pump (not pictured, but would be in far right chamber).

I'm not sure what "bubbles" you are referring to...

Greetings

I have the same sump and find that if you pull out the clear wall so water flows though the foam and just clean the foam once a month it does work well on removing more junk from the water. that is the way I have mine and it works good.

Wouldnt the foam be part of your mechanical filtration? I run a foam block in my 20 gallon. It prevents little pieces of junk from getting into your display. Clean every week, 2 weeks or month. It can only help if you clean it. If not then it probably will throw off your parameters.
