As some of you already know , I am a skimmer maniac ! I have gone through almost 10 skimmers in 4 years and now I got my mittens on the coral box curve d700 skimmer .

I had the luxury of borrowing this skimmer for 3 weeks from a friend who works in a lfs I frequent and he only asked that I keep my opinion honest if I make a thread on it so here it goes.

This skimmer was brand new never used and he let me test it to see if I would like it or not, one thing I would say is that it is built similar to the I tech 200 skimmer except for the pump being internal .

It is not as loud as a lot of skimmers out there but one thing I did notice is that it has a decent size footprint so you may have to give up a bit of real estate to put it into action , and it's a tad taller than my current seaside aquatics cs1 .

Anyway , the other noticeable element of this skimmer is the size of the bubbles , it can make some pretty large bubbles , some people love trillions of micro bubbles versus big bubbles but this is what it does so to each his own .

Overall at a ticket price of $255 it's a decent skimmer but I would have to say I took it back to him with the feeling that it is a basic run of the mill skimmer , I prefer a slightly bigger pump with a smaller body , and definitely not crazy about it being fairly new to the market.....overall I'm glad I tried it out and I greatly appreciate it ( rob) but I think for a few more bucks you can definitely get a skimmer of a higher caliber unless your into the idea of yet another controller
To play around with ! ( adjustable controller is nothing special)

So if you have a tight budget and just need a simple skimmer go for it , if your into deep crud removal and higher end spending , don't bother , hope this helps , happy reefing.

Thank you. I've been considering this skimmer.

What would you recommend at this price range or slightly above? "for a few more bucks..." ?

Let me look into a few different models and I will gladly recommend something your sure to like , just pm me your ideal spending budget and also how much space you have to spare in your sump.

Thanks, I appreciate that - very cool of you.

Let's put it like this. Currently I have an SWC160. I recently replaced the pump (Atman 2500) and it's never really been the same.

The pump is removable for easy maintenance I'm sure but switchable I'm not sure, however I am sitting pretty with my seaside cs1 till something better and not so pricey comes along , or I find a skimz at the right price, I have seen the larger skimz in action and they seem very precise at removing heavy crud.

Thanks for the review. I was wondering about how this one performs. I'm also looking to get a better skimmer and have been looking at the skimz. I currently have the seaside aquatics cs7 but I'm not pleased with its performance. And that's probably my fault because I run my sump at a higher water level than recommended for this skimmer.
