Any advice on maintenance of this skimmer? I have this skimmer running for about 3 months. I haven’t stopped the skimmer for anything. I clean the skimmer cup every other day. Do I have to do any other maintenance on this skimmer? If so how often and what should be carried out? If i stop the skimmer, will i have a "break in period" after that? I did look at older threads but couldn’t find many details. I may be wrong, so if there is an old thread about this please direct me there. Thanks for your time and help.

Thanks.

The skimmer break-in period allows manufacturing products still inside the skimmer to dissipate. Some say washing with soap and rinsing well will reduce the length.

just my .02 , the remora is a great skimmer for the price, easy to take care of and pretty reliable. I clean my cup once a week, and trust me there is tons of crap in there to clean out. Not much maintenece is required on a daily basis.

for my remora i usually clean the cup about 1-2 times a week and for a 10 gallon tank i get some pretty yucky stuff, sometimes 1 time a month i take the skimmer and clean it out and i do this when i do a water change, usually there will be some stuff on the walls of the skimmer so just brush it out and run it under water.
keeps my skimmer working like new, and there is definitly no break in period, also clean the tube that attaches to the pump that can get really dirty.
hope this helps

I have an old Remora, and when it starts skimming less, I pull it off the tanks and submerge it and the pump (a Maxi-jet 1200) in a vinegar/water bucket and run it that way overnight. Next day I rinse it out really well and put it back, and the difference in skimmate output is amazing--

you don't need to soak the skimmer body as much as the pump. The most important thing to clean is the injector (the thing behind the plastic screw on the intake. That injector is your whole skimmer.
