yes, it is reasonable to assume that, however, i already stated i just joined this forum, and was excited to report to fellow local reefers, a place i had great service. I have been using reef central for a year and have a lot of posts.

ok ive been there twice, and the only reasons where to pick up things from felix (he live like 3-4 for block from there) figured why not stop by and check it out.....75$ for a 2" hippo tang,15-20$ for a 1-1.5' chromis, and the coral prices are just as bad and their selection is really really really limited.

on another note... in all honesty, giving a good review to a well known bad store :scratch: you set your self up.

I also do not believe that the first thing someone does when they join a forum is to tell people about their store. Unless they own the store, it just doesn't do anything. From a social media marketing perspective. Advertising by the means of spamming on social networks is a very bad idea because it takes the social aspect out of the medium. Sure, forums are great because many of the people that you target for lead generation are concentrated in a certain area. But, if you spam without giving people very good and useful content it would often backfire and further destroy a stores reputation.

i can't believe you guys, i don't work there! i cant believe i can not express myself, about something i was excited about, without being trashed. I thought it would have been nice to join this forum, to discuss certain experiences. Now you are going to drive away someone who wants to contribute. It is rude to assume. yes one of my first post was about this store, but that is just a coincidence, i had a great time there got a beautiful tank, got it taken to my house and set up for a great deal. I am more of a reefcentral guy, and just joined this place because who on reefcentral would care about a lfs from ny when a large amount of their population is far from ny. This is just my opionion about this store, you don't have to agree, and if you don't then don't attack me. Reefing is one of my favorite hobbies, and i wouldn't try to give fellow reefers a bad expierence

if you've been reefing for a year, you should be well educated what's the prices on most fishes and dry goods. that store is ridiculously overpriced and its garbage. i'm not sure why you're still saying you got a good deal when its obvious you didn't.

so which are you lying about, not shilling for the store or reefing for a year?

you've been praising them this whole thread, how about pictures to back up the great deal you made out with. how many lbs is "lbs of live rock"? what light, what sump??

Its funny that again people are judging a person on his length of time hes been a member and how many posts he has. If hes advertising shame on him, but if not the forum just came off like a bunch of agressive attackers.

Half of you criticising him for his "time" and post counts have much less than a year and your guys post counts are not much higher than his, so by your own standards none of you should be saying anything either about any sotres and how good or bad the stores are, and Im in no way saying because i have a higher post count than some of you that I know more than the next guy here.


Jzhou- you joined in September and have 56 posts- maybe 10 out of his 12 are towards a store(only because hes been forced to defend himself on this thread) You have 56 and 4 of yours are here basically ridiculing a guy. Why do you care so much even if he is here to promote the store? Thats the mods jobs to worry about that stuff. This forum for the year and a month Ive been here has been known as a friendly place for people to learn. If everyone acts like this it will no longer be known for that.

But what I will say is if the guys new to the site and wanted to share an experience that he was happy with then so be it.

I bought some live rock there- the prices werent great true- but it was a few good pieces.

Maybe all the stores he had dealt with until now were like Aquarium Adventure- if thats the case ANY STORE would be truly awesome with what seemed to be super healthy livestock compared to what youd get at AA.

I also am not a Craigslist frequentor so I never saw any of his ads.

That's all well and good, except this college kid is excited about getting a deal at a store on a nice setup, sure he probably could have gotten cheaper or payed more elsewhere but seems to have got a reasonable price on an Oceanic setup which is usually expensive to begin with and all you guys did was rip him apart. My question to you is why? He may not be aware that the store does suck, all you have to do is try to open his eyes to the problems you guys experienced with that store not beat him over the head with UV filter.
You all should man up and do the right thing here, he's a new member and you all made the wrong assumption.

I agree with Inferno - it was ridiculous just reading this thread. You guys shouldn't be jumping to conclusions based on circumstantial evidence, and the tone was completely inappropriate. Even if the motives were suspicious, the approach could have been completely different and a lot less accusatory. The level of attitude is not representative of the spirit to which I have come to associate with Manhattan Reefs.
