It is a great product. I've used several of the others on the market, it was always the same, they would leak. The response was always, place them in your sump and it won't be a problem. unfortunately, I didn't have the space in my sump to place them there. And why settle for something that would leak. I decided to go with the BRS reactors and have since purchased more.

I now own two of the single reactors, One for GFO and One for carbon. In addition I also own the jumbo reactor.Great product and it works as described, and best of all, NO LEAKS. The ease of use is awesome, remove the interior cartridge and clean it out then replace the media and place back in the unit, Easy. I recommend them and you won't be disappointed.

Depends on how much water your trying to process but if your talking at least a 120gal setup then I would check out the MTC reactor. I've been using one here for a while now and so far it does it all. GFO (I ran two pounds in it and it didn't leave the reactor.), NP pellets, GAC. High quality materials all around.

The BRS dual reactor is nice but it too is a pia to clean and doesn't hold a lot of media. I switched mine out for 2 Nextreef MR1 reactors which hold alot more media and couldn't be happier. The BRS dual reactor is a quality piece but IMO best suited for smaller systems.

The MR1's go for $70 a piece, here are a few pics and a link to the reactor so you can get the specs. I'm sure if you look at the MR vendors in the marketplace they can hook you up with them, they are good quality units.

-1.5 cups of lignite carbon

-2 cups GFO Pellets (This would fill the BRS reactor to 3/4 full)

Hope this helps out.

Phosphate and Carbon reactor from them works great. i've had the dual reactor for a couple of years now from them and you can fill up the media up to half the container which equals to about 4 cups. their tubing has a switch to control the tumbling of the media. they also use the MJ 1200 which exactly fits the tubing they supply but of course like any other equipment for your aquarium it needs cleaning every month or so or the pump will not work properly.

There is no way the BRS reactor holds 4 cups in one reactor and only be 1/2 full.

Are you using BRS reactor? if you're talking about a different reactor like two little fishies yes it won't hold 4 cups. BRS media reactors are as big as the RO containers. how much do you put on your reactor?

I was using the 10" dual BRS reactor with the plastic containers that fit within the RO container that holds the media, I had to get larger reactors because the amount of GFO which was 2+ cups was filling the plastic media container almost 3/4 of the way and the carbon could not hold the required 2.88 cups of carbon. I'm not bashing the unit, it worked very well it is just lacking the capacity needed for larger systems.

ok the dual reactor is 14.5 x 14 x 5.
i guess it really depends on how you also use the reactor. if you switch the intake in full and use 2 cups then the media will lift up and tumble all the way to the top as soon as you turn it on which makes it fine.
i'm just saying i was putting in 3-4 cups and all i need is to see the media tumbling a bit which means its doing the job well. ive seen people turn theirs on full power and use 1-2 cups and as soon as you turn them on it looks like it goes full to the top.
i played with mine when i first got them and i've had mistakes on how much to put in the container and turning it on full power and it clogs then someone told me as soon as you plug them make sure you turn your tubing switch slowly and then you can decide how much of the media you want to move around the container.

BRS makes a jumbo unit that holds 6. The reg GDO/carbon units only hold 2 cups of media.

IMO, if you need more than the 2 cups of media look into getting a nextreef or reef octopus although I really like the RO container style alot from BRS. I've had my fair share of leak problems with the 2 little fishies units and the PITA to clean to bother with them anymore. I would spend that money on a better unit for the amount of time I spend changing media.

I'm not sure what your point is but the dimensions given are for the entire unit itself, the actual part you unscrew is 10" and takes a 10" carbon block, media holder etc... Here are their specs on the unit.

The BRS GFO and Carbon Reactor features several distinct advantages over other brands.

Heavy duty all plastic construction.
High quality easy to use double O-Ring push connect fittings.
Easy to operate, clean and maintain.
High quality ball valve for precise tuning.
Ability to run carbon and GFO at the same time.
Instantly attaches to popular pumps like Maxi Jets using included push connect fittings.
1/2" fittings and ports throughout reduce head pressure and provide ample flow rates.
Holds three cups of carbon (Aprox. 300g) or two cups of GFO (Aprox 290g).
Dimensions: 14.5"H x 14"W x 5"

If your fitting more than the manufacturers specs I'd love to see how you are doing this. If you look at the initial post the member is looking for a reactor with a large capacity.

If you look at the initial post the member is looking for a reactor with a large capacity.

my only point is i use 3-4 cups with my setting. my choice to do it and it works well for me.
if he wants to use 2 cups then that's how he wants it. i was merely giving an opinion how i use mine.
Yes i read the initial post which he says he has the small reactor and was thinking of moving into a bigger one and he was asking about the BRS.
Sizes vary and cost vary. you might think BRS is not a large capacity but some think compared to smaller reactors this is good enough depending on how big his tank is and what the cost is.
Everyone has their own style of doing things and im not sure why you're pointing out how much i should use.

As you were giving your opinion I was giving mine and don't consider the BRS unit as large, probably medium at best. I did not say anything about how much you should use I merely stated it is not possible to fit 4 cups of media into one of those reactors and it only be half full as you indicated, I also pointed out my experience with the amount I used and how full the reactors were.

um.......................................... both of you made good piont i guess i need to do some thinking do to that i use 5 cup in gfo and 5 cup of carbon also do the BRS unit hold the media well since my only worry is that the media leak out and i got to do more cleaning in the sump where i place them
