It look like a Polyclad flat worm, i never seen a black one though. I'm not sure and the pic isn't too great good try though..;
If it's a Polyclad, those guys devour snails and slams.....:eat:
It looks like a Keyhold Limpet or a Duck Slug. It should have a white shell in the middle of it's body, which you can see when it pulls in the flesh part of its body. It should also only come out at night.
No, they're not harmful at all. They're algae eaters and will stay on the rocks, sand and the glass. Outside of when the lights go off you'll probably never see them in the tank or know that they're there.
Take your pick, though I've seen them from other area besides Australia:
"The Black Elephant Snail (Scutus antipodes) is an Australian snail with a white shell and black body. It is often confused with a nudibranch since its shells is almost always covered by its body, and it is also known as the Elephant Slug, Ducksbill Limpet, Black Elephant Snail and others.
This snail is related to the "keyhole limpets". Its shell is shaped like a rounded rectangle and its eyes, antennae and siphon tube extend from on of the short ends. It is a grazer and will maneuver around the tank grazing on algae and detritus. "
