So today I stopped by my LFS and saw what I believed to be a colony of about 50 BLUE HORETS They had the rock marked at $150, and I couldn't resist! I know that on some websites they go for as much as $70 a polyp. They didn't know what kind they were for sure so I took advantage of this and jumped on them right away. If they're not blue hornets, does anyone know what they are? Did I hit the jackpot with this purchase?

Thanks
Matt

Does anyone have an identification on them, though? I don't care so much about price, I'm not planning on selling them anytime soon, but I'm just curious if they're a kind of hornet or not.

it's definitely a hornet, the question is whether it's a blue hornet or purple hornet, look closely at the disk and see if it's closer to blue or purple, as well as for the mouth, purple hornet has a purple mouth, and blue hornet has a whitish blue mouth, and look at the eye browse see if it's bright yellow then it's purple hornet, if it's yellowish green then it's blue hornet, these differences I observe from my own hornets, in other tanks might look different due to lighting, just for reference.

Okay my 2cents. Those are AOI zoas or STEEL ZOAS.

I can see why you would say the AOI, I can agree with you on that. Might be, but the yellow ring just seems too thin to be steel zoas. I think AOI seems more accurate than hornets though, thanks.
