Cotton Algae?

i find this stuff growing only on this piece of lr. it's like cotton, i can just pick it out with no problem. I've brushed this rock over and over before and also sun dried it. every time i put it back in my tank, it still grows back...what is it and why?? i don't wanna get rid of this rock, i like the shape... :scratchch :help:

It sure looks like sponge.
Is it squishy?
Does it absorb water? lol

How long did you leave it outside & it didn't die???
Can't you find another rock that has a nice shape?
You can always flip it over

yes it's kinda squishy and it absorbs water because when i take it out of the water it's not fluffy anymore.

btw, this rock is placed at the highest point, closest to the 250w mh in my tank.

both. some are single and some are bunched up.

whatever it is, its certainly not good. it's usually found in areas of low water flow n where there r high bio/organic levels, i.e when decay matter lingers.

so i took that rock out and scrubbed it. it's currently soaking in boiling water right now. i'm gonna let it dry out for a few days, maybe put on top of a radiator?:scratchch and then i'll place it in my sump for a lil while...

it's been on top of the radiator for 3 days now :shhh: gonna put it in the sump for a few days then back in the display. hope it killed what ever was growing on it...
