I'm currently in the process of building a website centered around a database that will hopefully help to ease the process of locating retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers.

My goal is to give hobbyists a place to look up retailers (both online and/or brick and mortar LFS shops) and at the same time give those retailers a place to look up supply contacts. This can also work back down the chain to the retail level, giving wholesalers a place to locate potential customers.

If you're in the reef aquaria business at any of these levels, drop me your contact info so that your business can be included.

Also, if you would like your organization left out of the database for any reason, please let me know.

aquacultured and captive raised corals? then I guess you have no need for florida collectors as you mentioned in a previous post.

Been to his site yet, Terra? He's got a wee bit more diverse stock list then FLA stuff.

Its sure hard to tell if its f1, f2, f3, etc. when a fragger also sells wild stock.

Wow nice ressurection!

Much of our Zoanthids are wild, some are aquacultured.

As far as SPS, LPS, and soft corals, only the A. efflorescens is f1. Everything else we currently have online is f3 or greater, a wild colony, or ORA grown.

Rob, thanks for stopping by, I'll shoot you an email when the database is up and ready and from there you'll be able to tweak any settings in your stores entry. (Details will be in the email..)

How do you get that Jenn? - Have you looked at my site or asked questions about what I am doing before throwing another can of gas on the fire that some hot-head started?

I can count on one hand the number of people who have asked me what I'm doing and only one of them posts in this forum - and even then thats rare lately.. (Heres another hint: She spends most of her time in the Sump..)

But since you raised the issue, allow me make it clear and simple..

THE DATABASE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PRICE!

No prices will be entered into it. If someone comes along and makes a comment that includes the prices of what they paid, those comments will be edited and the prices removed.

This is not, nor ever will be another pricewatch.com or gasbuddy.com - In its simplest form its just a lightly glorified business directory, that's it!

The only ways I this can see this hurting any businesses are:
#1 - You have pi$$-poor customer service and people generally hate you.
#2 - You could wind up getting some good old-fashined junk mail or extra phone calls (both of which will probably be business-related). I will be taking measures to control the possibility of the site being used by spammers so that shouldn't come into play..

What the database (or "directory" if thats more understandable for you) does is give people a place to go and find vendors. - Thats it! - Who out there is y type of vendor and sells x product. From there, the only "extra" to it is that past customers can leave comments and those comments can be viewed. (This is where #1 above comes into play...)

So the only way that price ever comes into the equation with what I am doing is that people can possibly save a little on shipping by entering a search to find vendors that carry everything they're looking for at that time and from there using that vendor to consolodate their order. - But they still have to look around / ask questions for themselves to find prices on everything.
