Hey everyone. I thought this would make fun reading....a retailer caught a regular customer of his trying to steal a rare piece of coral. Here's what happened.
I've had people I "know" (or thought I knew) steal books and magazines and other dry goods but have not lost livestock (yet). I did have somebody steal an anemone once when I worked elsewhere - it was being brought in for trade-in by a customer with other items and the floating bag disappeared right out of the tank.
In all cases I'm sure who knew who did it, but just don't have proof. Needless to say I don't let them out of my sight when they do come in again -- and they do.
I'm always watchful of anyone with a large soda cup, but nobody really brings coolers or large bags in here.
This thread is borderline against the rules for this is an obvious attempt by Eric to pimp his business by stating that he was the one to provide this particular store with a rare coral.
However, what really bothers me is how the article states the coral is illegal to collect. This implies that the coral is a Lord Howensis species of Acanthastrea. So, in essence, Eric is bragging about selling an illegal product.
*sigh*
BTW Eric, this post is made on my personal time and is of my own opinion as a hobbyist.
Well said JT, I was thinking the same, but usually seem to express things too vocally and create more enemies than friends as I let things boil too long.
Glad you could write what I'm sure many of us lurkers were thinking.
I thought it was an interesting story. We have certainly had clams and other wet items disappear out of our store. Some times the customers steal and some times it is employees. I see the posting as more of a heads-up than any type of shameful, self serving plug by Eric. If the coral was obtained illegally I doubt Eric would telling us about the coral here on rdo.
