...and lots of the same 'ol stuff gets to go to public aquariums that cannot use it.
Guys at Scripp's in La Jolla used to get boxes of misdeclared goniporas and fungias....that they didn't need or have space for.
Once I witnessed boxes of coral left at Fish and Wildlife in L.A. for several days awaiting shipment to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
No doubt, it went straight to the dumpster after the flight.
Steve
PS. Its no secret that few in the USFWS are savy about marinelife...most are mammal and bird people.
Seems lately that quite a few boxes of corals from Tonga might be making their way to the public aquarium as well? The Fish and Wildlife inspectors are getting pretty intense as of late. Perhaps you have motivated them to expand their knowledge and thoroughness Steve?

vitz, just go when the kids are not there, it's one of the best you'll see, very well taken care of animals. Nothing is worse than a bunch o kids running around banging on tanks.

From the same article at the top of this thread...

"Lightner, who is in custody, could face nearly three years in prison on the immigrant-smuggling charge. Court papers state he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and under terms of his deal he could be eligible for a hefty cut in his prison sentence if prosecutors deem his assistance "substantial.""

Will you listen to that canary? I bet they can hear it all the way to Mexico?

I missed that part in the article. He's scheduled to be sentenced December 5. He's been in jail since Oct of last year. He's a snake and they should throw the book at him...cooperation or not.

Everything indicated that Craig was to be sentenced today...but I can't find anything and he wasn't on Judge Feese's calendar. I also have a request, we formally call Craig Lightner from now on, Brenda Lightner...which is what he will soon be called by his 6'4" 250lbs cell mate.

With all of the charges against him, I can't believe that this worm (no offense to worms) was allowed to cop a guilty plea to only two charges. He must be singing awfully loud to have been given such a nice deal. With so many involved in the Clarion smuggling, I can't believe that Craig..sorry, Brenda, was the only person ever charged.

I'm just shocked that anyone would be put in prison for smuggling illegal aliens into the country. 8O There must be more to it that.

One of the news articles said that he had been investigated for also bringing in the other C as well as "Oregano". But that no charges had ever been filed.

I've been following his case here;
http://www.cacd.uscourts.gov
If you search the site using "Craig Lightner", it would bring up all of his court appearances and what happened. His court docs, and all the news articles said that he was to be sentenced December 5. Now all of a sudden there has been no sentencing, and all of his court documents pertaining to the clarion smuggling are gone from the web site. Of the 12 or 13 docs, the only one remaining is when the waiver of indictment was filed for the Encouraging Alien to Enter United States charge.

Makes ya say HHHMMMMMHHHHHH

Not filed yet, there is a jurisdictional squabble about who get to try him for the drugs.

Also, this is only the second part of the first act of the Opera, C-Brenda, is still singing that mexican Aria, not to mention about anyone h/she imagines might buy a reduction in showers and intimate cell nights.

Ahhh the sweet smell of justice. [/quote]

Sorry, I forgot to use his new name.

I figured that Brenda was singing loudly. It's just funny that they've had him in custody since October of last year and no one else has been indicated. Although, when he was arrested back in October it was for probation violations, and not the fish smuggling, alien smuggling, drug smugling. He was on probation for making terrorist threats against a military installation. He wasn't supposed to leave the Country without notifying his PO, and going into Mexico put him in violation. I guess it was sort of hard to go "hey, is it okay if I go into Mexico and arrange fish/alien smuggling operations"?

In all reality, he'll probably end up at a relatively quiet Fed pen somewhere...but I bet the last year in LA Country jail has been fun. He may already have a prison tatoo of Brenda on his arm.

A few months ago I called his old business number and his wife answered as Cortez Tropical Marine. She's still running his marine business.

Curious, his wife has also got a new handle, goes by Marina....I wonder if that has to do with any port in a storm? Probably not... just more obfuscation.

There have been indictments and convictions, not naming names but one is in Fed prison for his part in drug operation, one is being sentenced for his part in the alien smuggling on Monday another has already been sentenced that was on the boat that was siezed at LA Harbor entrence with 50 illegal aliens. Both got probation probably by helping feds get C-Brenda. Just a note H/She was labeled "The Weasel" when they ran him/her out of the Florida keys on a rail. Seems like a fitting label.

Finally caged the Weasel after S/he managed to build up a 20 page rap sheet of scofflaw and petty crime. Welcome to the big time C-Brenda aka Weasel. All of your accomplices are flipping you and you are flipping the TJ mafia guys...solitary should be looking really nice. Maybe you'll finally learn to read and write. Then again there's always Thorazine...

It's all SOP for families in the witness protection program.
