What should be debated is........

Why, Even after the installation of one-third no take zones..... it seems the career reeformers are still not satiated ?
The reported rebounding fish populations seem to have no positive effect on the anti hobby crowds stance.
Why is it that positive news seems to bring out even more critics?
The economy is at 3.8 percent growth.
Black home ownwership at record levels?
poverty is lower now then at any time in the Clinton admin
Federal tax Rev is higher then at anytime during Slick Willy
Yet most Americans have been tricked into thinking the oposite?

Its never been about helping the reefs or helping America
Its about reclaiming power at the expense of the people listening.

In many countries now we find a disproportionate amount of critical attention given to ornamental fisheries as opposed to the other 99% of the reef users...ie. food fishers.
I think the focus on ornamentals stems in part on account of the fear and or futility many scientists and eco-folks have felt in taking on food fish industries.
Tropicals are an international trade item and a dollar earner. Its sexier and its an easier mark.
If reef damage and sustainability of marine eco-systems were the main priority then food fishing industries and companies would be getting a lot more serious criticism then they are now.
Its easy to poke at the small guy and takes far less courage.

Probably not, I don't personally have funds to pay for registration of panel members. I think that AMDA might fund Steve's travel costs and registration, if there is a good justification for his attendance on behalf of the organization.

If we had more time, I think funding could be obtained for conference participation (e.g., from NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Grants). There is NOAA funding available that contributes to better management of coral reefs and coral reef resources (such as MAF).

In the present case, I believe a panel needs to be convened to discuss issues relevant to management of MAF collection (e.g., sustainable harvesting) and conservation of coastal and marine habitats (including coral reefs).

With all the resources Hawaii has to focus on its own fishery management....I can't imagine us 'howlies,' 'mainlanders' and 'flatlanders' adding much to it.
Retreating from the real issues in need to safe Hawaii is what so called reformers do all over the world. Thats why Hawaii is the site of so many headquarters.
This trade is based in S.E.Asia and thats where the frontlines are.
Futher, hotter and more dangerous? Well then...if thats all too much then some need to vacate the kitchen.
The quintessentiial issue I think is ...
"where has nearly 10 million dollars in industry reform money gone this past decade without generating reformed fish supply?" :roll:

I agree with Steve. The panel would discuss the issues concerning the MO harvest and trade on a world-wide basis, not just the situation in Hawaii.

I am willing to supply Kalk and Steve and any others that want it the body oil.
