It has been implied before that MAC might start supplying fish for some major chain pet stores that happen to carry MO. How will demand be met if even the major wholesellers don't feature MAC certified fish, even when they state that they carry them.

Has anybody at MAC seen how many of these store's tanks are kept? Hasn't it been the outcry of many hobbyists the fact that some of theses mega retailers tanks and husbandry techniques are "the worst thing to happen to the hobby" and they should be shut down , blah, blah.?

Are these "rumors" real, will we finally be able to obtain the coveted MAC certified fish we have been promised for God knows how many years?

FWIW, I'm just a hobbyist that seems to enjoy reading too much, so if I sound ignorant, well too bad.

Gman,
If MAC fish ever appear anywhere...and end up in chain stores...it would merely confirm all we ever said about them and would define them for what they truly are.
They are to this trade what the coming certified shrimp are to Walmart.
Fraud, sham and pretense.
And it often works .

I think you might see MAC certified live rock and MAC certified aquacultured stuff in Petco first.

PS
Gman I guess you didn't know MAC was the brainchild of Rick Horn of Petsmart.

That I didn't know dizzy. So basically they're looking to "self-certify"? This keeps getting better and better  , at least to me.

But honestly, where is the money given to MAC going to? I've read there's no nets for the collectors, by the amount of fish coming, or reported coming, I don't doubt it, there doesn't seem like a lot has been accomplished. We can talk about awareness and exposure to the media, blah, blah, blah. But at the end isn't that money supposed to be going to train collectors that will catch fish "correctly" and making them available to the market? Wasn't MAC given $$$ (US dollars) to provide better fish and yet there's none to be found?

BTW my name is Jorge Moran, (b4 somebody jumps in and asks who the hell I am) I'm just a hobbyist, but do have very good/close friends that own B&M bussiness dedicated to MO and I've heard them talking about MAC and their willingness to obtain MAC certified fish and all the hoo-ha about "MAC this, MAC that", but yet where's the fish?

TY for your replies and patience with me.

"I've heard them talking about MAC and their willingness to obtain MAC certified fish and all the hoo-ha about "MAC this, MAC that", but yet where's the fish?"

MAC fish...a brand name in search of a product.
Marketing, marketing, marketing. They get an A for that.
As John Brandt once told me at an IMAC a few years back;
"WHAT IF THEY HAD SUBSTANCE TO GO WITH IT?"
What if indeed? But like I said 5 years ago.
That dog don't hunt. He ain't never caught a rabbit and he ain't no friend of ours.
Perhaps the intent of Rick Horn at PETSMART was to shunt the reform tide thru their nationwide network of stores but it has morphed and metamorposed...evolved and perverted into a self perpetuating bureacracy in search of talent to achieve something...anything beyond just marketing smoke.
The new team in Manila is the worst ever.
The field team is the worst ever.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the fish.

I think Petsmart was looking for a way to claim the green highroad, as they entered into the saltwater market, or maybe they wanted healthy fish. (Or both.) Whatever the reason, you got to give them credit for realizing all the problems of making it work, before they wasted to much time on it. They backed away and this thing took on a life of its own. For anyone interested in learning the origins of MAC you might try this contact info: Rick Horn – VP PETsMART (Retired)

Mitch,
The so-called conspiracy theorist is 100% correct here.[ again]
I interviewed with Mr Horn myself in the early 90's on exactly this project.
I advised them against it....and pointed out that real reform was stifled and stymied in the Philippines by "characters w/ all the wrong stuff" and that motivated labor thats better paid has a hard time figuring out all the variables in keeping the fish properly.
The mass marketing of salt fishlike dry goods on a skiu was not ready, not sustainable and would never be.
Anyway, we talked a number of times and then it trailed away.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called Thursday for the resignation of Mac director, Paul Holthus, hours after excoriating him at a public hearing over what she said was a "failed policy" in Indonesia the Philippines.

"I just don't understand why we can't get new leadership that would give us a fighting chance to turn the situation around before it's too late," the New York Democrat told the Associated Press. "I think the president should choose to accept his resignation."

Clinton confronted him directly on Indonesia and the Philippines earlier in the day, and said his answers left her convinced he should go.

"The secretary has lost credibility with the Congress and with the people. It's time for him to step down and be replaced by someone who can develop an effective strategy and communicate it effectively to the American people and to the world."

For months, Clinton has resisted joining the chorus of other Democrats demanding Holthus' ouster. Her remarks Thursday were the harshest assessment yet from the woman .

Steve
PS. I only changed the words in red.
Her remarks were so very fitting [ albiet in the excorciation of hapless Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld] . If you fail, you sack the one in charge and develop new leadership.
