Telling the truth in this trade has never been a popular move and never advantageous in sales promotion either.
It has been suggested that this kind of news not be reported because it doesn't look good to outsiders.
That implies that revelations and testimony from inside the trade will not be received well and not seen as a healthy thing.

Perhaps it is ment that whistle-blowing is only good against the mob, toxic waste, illegal forestry, animal abuse and political corruption...but when it comes to revealing the truth about our own trade from within ...it is not seen as a good thing.
If the truth doesn't look good...it should be kept secret?
Since when did we become the bad guys?
Self reform, and revelation is part of the reform process.

In drug and alcohol abuse...it is primary progress to admit what you are ...honestly.
I for one... find this discourse in inconvenient truths as healthy and democratic.

Is not the little outrage over small events a bit odd coming from a trade based on chicanery in "for sale" Indo CITES permits for its coral allocations and a 40 year tradition of fishing w/ poison?
Our industry and trade and hobby are based on an illegal premise and approved by a myriad of institutions and orgs.
Clarion-gate was actually of no consequence to the environment... nor was the leopard shark sting....
The things that really damage the environment are institutionalized and exempt.
The little token things that get hi-lighted to help us sleep at nite are what get all the heat..
They are the easy things and akin to a shake down of tourists for marijuana whilst the heroin dealer passes thru the border unchecked.
We cry against he pot-head because its safe and easy...and this lightweight tokenism defines us.
We..and our character is the issue.

If the trade is analogous to the career of Capone then perhaps we should be caught.
We have a good side and a dark side....the question is which side will prevail.
Most of the proponents on both sides are silent...as if that were somehow dignified.
So, this drama turns on small events....and few characters.

I've heard of calling the rape victim a slut before. If people do things that jeopardize my livelihood I'm pissed. I think Bob has a right to be heard. If he bears false witness then he should suffer the consequences. We already have a system of justice in place to deal with those issues. This forum shouldn't be here to help provide cover for crimes against the environment.

Of course people with concerns relevant to the issue have something to say.
I imagine that competitors in the same region could have a great deal to say.
I imagine they have history, simmering differences and conflict even.
To expect them to be as cool and detached as distant, uninvolved people is absurd and I agree w/ Mitch that things need to be better understood in this industry.
I mean, how can you defend it if you don't even know about it?
How can you concoct opinion out of irrelevance?
As a stranger to Haiti...I for one am glad we have embedded reporters ie. folks who know something about it to learn from.

90% of what Bob said, hasn't been backed up with anything Mitch. If Bob says false things against them, and they sue, guess what website will be invovled That's why sites have rules, ie. UA's.

If Bob is a reporter, the news outlet he works for is centerred in Fla, The National Inquirer. They to say many things that can't be, or aren't, backed up with fact. Persoanally, I don't read that rag, but if you like his style, you'll like that rag :lol:
