Is this a message board for discussing the industry, or a classified ad listing only?

Anyone posting an ad should expect responses, because this is a board for discussion, not a post only with no reply board.

I can see posting industry related for items. What about job postings those are classified items as well. Maybe they should be strickly industry related, i.e. importer, wholesaler, retailer, etc. Its not like we have so many posts running that topics get run off the page. Mods can delete problematic ones or offtopic threads.

As I understand it, the thread in question was locked because it seemed to be going down a path of ickyness and UAA violations, not because it is classified and should get no responses.

I don't have any problem with people posting businesses in the industry for sale, though I think that if they decide to do so here, that they should be prepared to discuss it as people ask questions. This is a discussion board. After all why post here if you don't want to discuss it?

The person that started the thread did not ask for the thread to be locked, so I really am not sure what the issue is.
The thread was locked because there was at least one post (that was deleted by accident instead of edited) that violated the UAA. The moderator felt the thread was going downhill and that the poster and the community at large would be better served by locking the thread.

Wayne, I agree that if someone posts here they should be prepared for responses. However, those responses must be within the new tone of this forum. Yours was not. Also Thales is correct, the thread was heading towards the negative and therefore I locked the thread. I'm sure you're welcome to contact the poster if you have any questions for them.-Jim

It is sad though, the way this forum is being killed.

Nobody wants to waist their time posting anymore because it will just get deleted.

I am getting tired of explaining this to you and having you then post about it incorrectly.
What is being edited are posts that are accusatory or insulting, as it explained in the sticky at the top of the forum. The content of the posts was just fine, the insults and accusations were not. Simply editing the post to remove the insulting or accusatory portions was not helpful in getting people to not include such portions, so we are now removing the entire post in an effort to make this forum and 'better' place.
I agree that it is a shame that this is the way the forum is going, and at the same time I think it is was a worse shame the way the forum was going before the UAA.
BTW, in the past few months there were weeks that went by without a single post in this forum.
We welcome discussion, what we don't welcome is the insults and accusations. In other words, post respectfully an you won't be edited. I have a hard time believing that this request is really an undoable hardship.

Wayne, Thales is correct and your input is welcome. However this forum will no longer be a place to simply snipe or simply rant on about individual or organizational deficiencies WITHOUT offering anything productive or positive. If that's what you're looking for, I believe we have a forum called "the sump" where such posting is welcome.
We're trying to make this forum actually productive and break out of the old style of circular, gossip oriented, negativity. If you can't or won't engage in this forum at that level then it is indeed dead to you and I'll have to ask you to stop posting here. This is as much explanation as I think you need to understand the concept so I'll expect you to abide by the new format or simply not post here.-Jim

But how are you going to plant a garden if you don't get your hands dirty?

There is a difference between doing a bit of digging, verses making a big mud whole.

Sometimes the soil below needs to be brought to the surface.
