with a bit of poking last night, I confirmed my suspicions on whom posted that site I won't divulge her name, but I'm sure others will figure it out as well  It's not tough
Spanky really didn't hold anything back though - and I threw in my 2 cents.
There's a lot of unanswered questions, appears to be some backpedaling by both parties (the Sanctuary and Borneman)... there are several ways to interpret the information.
Either way - it's not good another black eye for the scientific community as well as the hobby and the industry.
Selectively? No - in fairness to the author of the web page, they have put all the info that they've received thusfar, up there and in the Q&A section it asks what their opinion is, and they instruct readers to form their own. The information is what it is - let the reader make up their own mind - which apparently people are doing.
After reading your posts over on TRT yesterday - you caused me to do some more close reading of those same documents and I did concede that Eric was asked to inventory the corals he collected, including those over 20 cm - so you helped me to see that perhaps the Sanctuary wasn't as squeaky clean in all this as they may want to appear in subsequent communications.
Unfortunately some other questions went unanswered before the thread was locked - such as how did Eric know to apply for a permit then and why were the corals recalled? That information has not surfaced yet.
It seems to me the main problem was that the corals stopped being taken care of which spurred the Sanctuary to take action.
When he took the corals he wasn't supposed to take, perhaps they were annoyed but didn't feel the need to take action because it was more trouble than it was worth.

I would guess that an announcement could have been sent around on that coral list server that they are all members of or simply he could have gotten a heads up from NOAA friends.
As to why the recall, things went badly between Reef Savers and EB and Reef Savers quit caring for the Atlantic system and furthermore locked Eric out of their facility and the corals suffered because of it. And this is the best part, and the part that would drive the TRT nutjobs crazy, Reef Savers didn't like spending time and money on a system/corals that were producing no sales. Kind of undercuts the selling corals for profit aspect, doesn't it?
Steven,
Did you go there to Reef Savers and see this for yourself, or it second hand information? If so please, attribute the source. I heard a somewhat different version of the events.
Thanks,
Mitch
The documents on the lostopportunity website show that Reef Savers quit caring for the corals, that Eric was refused entry, and that this started the recall. The mention of a financial arrangement between Reef Savers and Eric is Reef Savers submitting a bill for their care to date, not that any specimens were sold.
I remember the alleged "tank vandalism". How does this play into that, or does it? At the time I frankly thought EB sounded a little paranoid. The old "people are out to get me" was over the top. Now I wonder? Did he set up the crash to cover up?
All in all it's a pretty disappointing occurrence in reefdom
