Just what you have accused MAC of, lack of public info. Maybe prior to talking them up, they should be more forth coming to the public. Who knows, they could just be another blunder that was talked up, hyped up, but in the end, just a fund bucket that never spills!

There's been a core group of out spoken oppenants of MAC. Some are bitter thier funding ceased and went to MAC. Others a bitter as they weren't included. And some where outspoken as they didn't like what they heard or saw. Only the latter IMO will be one that can move on, the others will always be naysayers and will have nothing to contribute but grief.

I talked to David for several hours Peter, many hard topics where discussed, including the CDT, you, Steve, etc.

FWIW, I coined the term "Paul the Wall" :D I had no idea it went global like it did. Not knowing Peter from Paul, oops, bad analogy....I should have given him more of the benefit of the doubt!

Gresham, EASTI's policy is never to promise more than it can deliver.. So, if I presently refuse to discuss what EASTI is doing, it is because of that.

Great, some secret thing that can't be talked about. Is there a secret handshake only EASTI people know?

How transparent of them.....BTW that was one of your jabs at MAC in the past...Being transperant.

Gresham, Why don't you tell the readers on RDO what David M had to say
to you about CDT, Steve, and myself etc. Or, is that a secret?

EASTI done anything in the past? Can't talk about the future, nor the present, so let's here about the past :) Care to start a new thread about that?

Currently with your vinegar voice, I'm afraid I'm of no mind to respond to your requests. I was working on a post, pictures and all, but now I'll sit on it for a spell and let you make your Kimchi in peace.

How about we let David and MAC speak for themselves. If you haven't figured it out yet, they are figuring out what to do, so waiting till they have something to say seems like a good idea.

Peter, I really am interested in answers to my questions about you think a hobbyist could do to help, and where they can get EASTI non juiced fish.

Thales, I have been importing net-caught fish from Indonesia from collector associations receiving training from Telapak and EASTI. So far, the stores selling these fish in the USA are limited to Florida. Telapak is expanding the network of collectors. So, there may soon be a wholesaler or a retailer near you with 100% net-caught fish. The buyers like the fish because they live.

Which cyanide detection test is being used and why? What percentage of specimens? Is the test being done stateside or in Indo? What organization is performing the tests and what are their qualifications? Where are the written results of the tests?

This is great news that you have net-caught fish and I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Thales,

The reason I am importing MO fish is to help solve the problems related to shipping and handling. I have been advising EASTI on acclimation and shipping protocols. We try various things and then I receive the fish and assess water quality in the bags and survival rates. To break even, I sell the fish.

Caterham,

At present, there are two CDT laboratories run by BFAR in the Philppines. The first is at BFAR headquarters in Manila, the second is situated in Puerto Princesa on the Island of Palawan. There are no CDT laboratories in any other country, at least none that I know about.

My understanding is that the BFAR labs use the ISE method that I described in previous postings. There were some tests done by BFAR several years ago using picrate paper. I believe they have stopped doing that method because it was found to be unreliable. There were also experiments with a colorimetric method done by Merck with BFAR several years ago that did not work.

In my area of the country, terms like captive bred, tank raised, net caught, locally grown, organically produced, etc... add at least 15% to the price of anything. Consumers expect it. I think specifically here in Northern California, you could support a 30% price increase for PI net caught fish.

Bookfish, I believe that net-caught fish can be sold at competetive prices to those caught by other methods. This is dependant on reducing mortality rates through the chain of custody. We now have data indicating that the collectors associated with Telapak's trainng programs have improved their collection, handling, and shipping practices. This has reduced the mortality on the fish I have been receiving in Florida shipped from Bali, Indonesia.

So to expand on Caterham's question, how does anyone know the fish in your COC is cyanide free, other then the words of the ones selling and buying the fish?

I was at MACNA this weekend and spent a good amount of time talking to David Mainenti and John Brandt. Actually, a bunch of people spent a good deal of time talking to them. David really seems to have the right attitude and I am very optimistic for the future.

That group photo there at the end, reminds me of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons when they were younger. 8O
