There you go boys.

There is no need to harvest wild caught Nemos any longer.

you really don't have a clue about numbers and scale in this trade, do you ?

that supplier, plus cquest, plus ora, some other 'large' outfits, plus local breeders STILL don't meet the demand of this country, not by a long shot-let alone the demand worldwide

how many percula clowns do you think a wholesaler in the us moves weekly during slow season, wayne?

Vitz, no need to keep banging your head into the wall, Wayne's too easy

From the reports I've gotten on these fish, they're OK but NOT domestic (still international freight tagged on, and the losses typical of shipping such long distances). Not to mention not many other MO fish are shipped from Thailand so exclusive MO only wholesalers won't be buying these fish. The fact they're in Thailand will be the largest hurdle for them to overcome.

Well there are plenty of freshwater transshippers that bring in lots of fish from Thailand. Many of those transshippers do fresh and also saltwater, so it wouldn't be any big leap for them to bring in some of the clowns as well.

While you are smacking your head ponder on this: There ain't too many exclusively MO wholesalers left. I know of two formerly exclusive MO wholesalers that have recently partnered with freshwater importers. In addition to that, isn't Quality tied in to Dolphin somehow?

Great Mitch, your right.....I'm wrong.

Ponder just why they aren't on every wholesalers list all ready if they're such a high demand item as you think they are.

Gresham,
I never heard of this farm until they spammed me. From their blurb it sounds like they just recently got the necessary permits to begin exporting to the US. If they have a quality product and they are going to sell them cheap enough I think you will see them pop up on wholesalers lists. The breathable bags might well for small clowns. You made it sound like they would have a hard time working their way into MO wholesalers hands. I was merely pointing out they could easily hitch along with freshwater via already established channels. Ask vitz if they get any freshwater from Thailand.

It sounds like this guy knows what he is doing. I was wondering how long it would be before Asia got serious about culturing clowns and other MO species. 200 pairs should produce quite a few offspring when he gets ramped up.

MR. PRAMOTE SANGSUKSIRIKUL is an owner and manager of NEMOFARM. He was born in Bangkok on 28 April 1955. He is a 51 year old married man, with two children, both studying.
The farm owner has many years experience in the marine fish breeding field. He graduated from Kasetsart University in 1978 with a B.Sc. in Aquaculture. In 1978, He started his work in a Giant prawn breeding company. After two years, the company changed ownership and he became a researcher. His researches were concentrate on Giant prawn disease, Sea bass disease, Pearl oyster breeding, Phytoplankton culture and Sea bass breeding. As a result of his research, he was able to breed Pearl oyster to 15 cm. in diameter at the end of the project.
When he had enough experience, he set up his Sea bass Hatchery named PRAMOTEFARM at Chonburi province in 1983. He produces 15-18 day-old sea bass fries (about 20,000,000 fries per year) and sell to Thai farmers and export to Taiwan. Sometimes he produces post larva of Tiger shrimp and White shrimp depending on market demand. He also produces Red snapper eggs and fingerlings.
In his hatchery (PRAMOTEFARM), he has broodstock tanks of Seabass, Grouper, Redsnapper and Humpback grouper.
In August 2005, he applied for University Business Incubator of Burapha University and was trained in clownfish breeding techniques from Institute of Marine Science at Burapha University(BIMS). After the end of the course, he decided to set up a second farm name NEMOFARM where it is situated about 9 kms. from PRAMOTEFARM. The farm is under consultation of
Dr.Vorathep Muthuwan (Director of Institute of Marine Science) and his team at BIMS. At present, we are breeding 7 species of Clownfishes. Monthly production of the farm is about 10,000 fingerlings of Clownfishes which are export to foreign countries. Some fingerlings are sold in Thailand.

NEMOFARM has 54 Aquariums, 157 concrete tanks with capacity ranges from 0.2-75 m3 and total capacity of 770 cubic meters. The farm has nearly 200 pairs of broodstock of clownfishes.

He is also an invited lecturer of Burapha University where he gives lectures on Sea bass breeding and Sea bass farm management.

Your right Vitz, I don't know but think of it this way.

If there was a ban or if industry just to decided to deal in aquacultured fish and coral where available, over time, would the AC industry not gear up to deal with the demand.

no it wouldn't, starting a clown farm is not fast. We have been starting up for a year now and the clowns just started breeding regular enough to make money. The price per clown would just triple to cut the demand......Not that i would be against that

why do you think things are so simple? did you ever even try and research basic issues that are involved here ? how the import/export thing works, the beaurocracy/paperwork involved, how suppliers work/ship, the supply and demand issues of the biz ? the practicalities/neccesities involved ?

hey-how come you're not making an energy efficient car? just go out to your backyard, and build a factory-shouldn't take you 'alot of time' now, should it? i expect you to be able to supply all worldwide demand 'soon' :P

why do you think 'industry can just decide' what to carry? do you know that alot of what importers get are things they don't even order, or want?do you understand about 'making freight' ? do you know why ? do you really care ? or is this just another attempt to be seen and heard here trying to look important to some anonymous reader?

why do you constantly completely ignore what others who have far more experience and knowledge than you have to say about every subject you stick your nose into with such complete ignorance and arrogance ?

'think of it this way' ? 'over time' ? heck, if anyone thought about things your way the entire MO biz would be amazingly fubar'd

what on earth do you mean by 'over time' ?

you don't know, and have no right to ask anyone to 'think of it this way' since it's something you have no clue about-but then again, being completely ignorant has never stopped you from telling people what they should do before

i could rave on for another page or two, but i have to go re-scape my nano (again :P ) as i have a day off today :D
