This email is making the rounds. I decided to edit this and remove the name of the company in question. They need to be aware this is being sent around with that information intact. This sort of backs up Race's remarks about some of the wholesalers not doing so well. Either that or they got some bad fish from this company.

Its no problem at all!

They will just do it all over again. Fold up the company and declare bankruptcy. Anyone who has receivables from them will be left holding the note and will never get paid. They can write off the bad debt but thats about all.

Then a NEW company will suddenly appear! They will have a name like Everything Reef Incorporated and when the sales rep calls they will say they are with ERI and that everything is great! They will continue to ship animals that are CHEAP. The same guy will own the company and some of the same sales reps will be calling on you.

Is this a great country or what?

Just to be clear. I don't know anything about Silver Dollar Aquarium. They spam me with their price lists, but I have never bought from them. I deleted the name of the American importer who may well have stiffed Silver Dollar Aquarium for some fish or corals. I guess the lesson to be learned is that if you don't pay your bills they(SDA) will spread the word. I don't blame them really.

Yah, but do we know why the bill went unpaid? Did they send the shipment with out telling their stateside buyers? Did they give a 50% fill? Do they choose bad animals from the get go?

One of my wholesalers told me not too long ago that they are not doing too great and are thinking about selling out to do retail; not sure why the retail. What a shame and I like them too, one of the few that I can count on to split the “good stuff” fairly.

Time to be VERY, VERY CAREFUL about your posts. None of you, obviously, have good information on this nonsensical little bit of slander making the email rounds. However, as is the norm on this forum, people are more than glad to come out of the woodwork to spread rumor, gossip, and hearsay in the nastiest way possible. I would think more than twice before any more libel is "shared" on this or any other subject. BE PROPERLY INFORMED BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH!!!! Consider, perhaps that this supplier MAYBE sent a shipment of sick and dead fish and then demanded payment for it. Ask yourselves if YOU would pay for unsaleable merchandise under the same circumstances? FYI, Mr. Doyle still tries to solicit our business every week at the same time as he spreads his "black list" around the industry!!!

As for the two somewhat unrelated posts on this thread regarding the great country we live in and the retail sale issue, again I sincerely caution you to CHECK YOUR FACTS before you feel the need to share. Mr. Doyle will be hearing from our attorney on this matter.

Figured that was the case. Had a similiar experience with a Sri Lankan supplier.

Retails stores have to pay for DOA's and DAA'a lol. I have to eat it all the time(if it's under 25%)...................On trans ships I find them more then willing to credit the deads but you still gotta eat the shipping.

You create and abide by the terms of trade as set between you and your suppliers. We do the same with our trade partners. In this case we CLEARLY and unambiguously disclosed our terms of trade PRIOR to doing business with Silver Dollar Aquarium. This person KNEW IN ADVANCE how we were prepared to do business with him and yet still made demands contrary to those disclosed terms AFTER THE FACT!!

Believe me, we are familiar with eating DOA's and DAA's in this business. As prudent business owners we predisclose an acceptable cap to these damages which allow us to actually stay in business!!! Any supplier who is averse to our policies is FREE to refuse to ship to us.

BTW, if you are eating 25% in DOA's and DAA's you are dealing with the WRONG suppliers!! We only ask our customers to absorb the first 5%!!!!

These people have already received communications warning them of the consequences of their actions. The only mistake we made was to fall for the spam offers and actually try them out back in 2005. Upon researching the subject we actually did send them two wire payments. The reason they are bitter is because we deducted for the poor quality EXACTLY according to the terms of trade we disclosed to them BEFORE THEY SHIPPED!!! If we had wanted to truly cheat them out of the two shipments they sent us we could EASILY have witheld all payment - instead the proper monies were sent to them in a prompt manner.

As for warning the industry about suppliers like this, our experience has been that noone really wants to listen. Shippers like this usually seal their own eventual fate by sending inferior product packed in an inferior way until they run out of suckers willing to pay good money for bad product. Even the most naive customer will eventually have to stop buying inferior produst as they inevitably discover (often very late in the process) that they are lsoing money hand over fist. Over the years I have given up wasting my time dealing with this kind of nonsense!!!

Perhaps this thread has helped at least one poor soul. I received the following email after the thread was started:

"Dizzy, I am not clear whether it is the Sri Lanka company that is at fault or whether there is an NA importer who has not paid its bills to the company in Sri Lanka. If the company at fault had its name deleted, the posting seems to imply the fault is with the company in Sri Lanka.

Please clarify.
Especially since I just got a stock list from the company situated in Sri Lanka!

Lol I have shipped them fish for over 10years and get paid!! Can't ask for much more. No budy in this biz burns a shipper of GOOD fish. I understand that Silver Dollar is a small shipper that buys seconds from other shippers divers and blows tham out cheep. Dont forget ERI had to pay for the shipping on the dead fish. It aint the cost of the fish its the airlines that kill you.

I take exception with this email. I am a manufacture who has done business with ERI for well over 3 years. In that time, I did in fact see that they reorganized. I was informed of all events prior to the happening, and NEVER, NEVER had an unpaid bill.

I take pride in our partnerships, and will continue to do business with ERI.

It is too bad that the efforts of the husbandry staff are unoticed.

They know they sent crap and did not get paid but still need to sell the rest of their crap lol. I have transshippers calling me all the time now to sell direct to LFS's where they never did before. I think it just shows how bad it is getting, starting to go from LFS's having a hard time, to everyone hurting for more business. Too many LFS's have folded. Rumors that a large Wholesaler on 104th is moving, etc, etc, etc....

Sadly I think LFS's have to make the transition to some trans shipping or face extinction with the support drop ship non B&M etailers and group buys are getting from all the wholesalers. More and more I feel pressure to compete with those prices via trans ship. It has worked well on the times I have done it, but I am leery of scams and bad trans shippers. Kinda just stick to who I know.
