I had the opportunity of being out in Hawaii when the program debuted last month and watched it in John Earle's apartment with him(center, also from the program), Rich Pyle(right, holding the Centropyge abei Holotype specimen), and others including Jack Randall, the man who's described more reef fish species than anyone in history (now over 700). The new bright blue Chromis sp. they collected on the trip shown in the program was in a jar right behind Rich in this shot at the Bishop Museum... I'm to the left...

They were very excited about that Chromis... the abei had of course been seen before, and the single abei that Rich collected is the one that is on display at the Waikiki Aquarium... None of Brian's survived long (as Rich rubbed in... ) The Prognathodes butterfly in the video Rich thinks is a color variation of the one he found in Hawaii, but probably the same species... they're still undescribed though... His Dr. Seuss fish (Belonoperca pylei) he's very proud of, and he said it's very widespread... a gorgeous fish... the funny thing is there is one other fish in the genus and it reminds me of a walleye :D... lacks much color and is drab... a stark cotract to the pylei...

Hiroyuki, excellent video... Rich NEVER wears a wetsuit... so it bit him on that dive... now when people ask what else they could put in their temperate tank we could recommend the deepwater stuff coming from Christmas... :)
