Well from the replies to that linked thread it appears it's like everything else now. Just ship one off to China and have them make them for you.

It is up to industry to come up with a common definition that all importers, exporters and hobbyists are aware of.

The problem is just because it's called one of those doesn't make it so.

How many days in captivity does a "raised" fish make ?
Transhipped fish are held in captivity during the time of re-OX!
Does one night count?
Is the belly of an airplane "Captivity"?

Need to adopt a completely new catch phrase for this product.

As well as tables inside. The outside is nice though if you can get a place amongst th plane spotters :) It's at the end of of the the LAX run ways right down the street from 104th. What, it's been that long since you've been out here to Cali?

Greshame, although I have visited almost all states and most major centres, I have not set foot in the US since their invasion of Iraq. But it is looking like my travel boycott may end soon.
Maybe we could meet eachother than, eh!

Very admirable and after all this time I don't think you should compromise. Stick to your guns and refrain from visiting, as a matter of fact I think you should up the ante and cease all communication ( in any of its forms) with anyone from the warmongering USA.

Oh yeah.

Anyway I just checked that forum and apparently they are claiming that these are tank bred.

These fish were bred in china, 6 were brought in about a week ago. And yes there is a difference in tank bred/raised. Tank raised fish can be wild larvae or sm juveniles of a fish that are caught and grown out in captivity. However these blues are tank BRED.
Tangs are pelagic spawners and require very large tanks with schools of fish to induce spawning, so it is a bit of a costly venture.
Many fish can be bred in tanks, but like tangs, it will take some work to unlock their secrets. Pygmy Angels are another promising group with aquaculture potential.
But only with support from the hobbyists will TR Marine fish & invertebrates prosper

Wayne,

Can you remind the board...what was the Canadian position on the war in Iraq? Oh, and stil is!!!
Our government supported the UN resolution and refused to take part in the US led invasion. That position continues.

Yes, But the Canadian government supports the UN and the US government in providing troops to fight the Taliban in Afganistan. Canada also exports oil and gas to the US. So, what has this got to do with culturing blue tangs? Nothing.

Lets see what Thales does to this.

I doesn't take into account captive bred. Eggs can be caught in the wild and hatched in the aquarium making them captive born but not captive bred.
