Since a few people on this forum can't seem to understand/fathom my position on if any chemicals should be used to collect fish even though I've posted my answer numerous times....

IMO no juice of any sort is needed and if used should be considered as such...juiced. Nets are all you need Smile

Read that really carefully Wayne, what does that mean to you?

If you read it as I am in favor then either you need glasses or it's a case of selective reading. You may want to believe I am in favor but that is no the truth.

How about others? Do you think there is a use for any chemicals in the collection of MO?

Chemicals being anything from clove oil to cyanide...

Ladies are using barrier nets to collect fish commercially.

In fact, that cool chick from Tahiti and the one we are working with here in New Guinea have proven that there has been something wrong with the manly defense of drugs for 40 years now.

The brand new trainees here just collected 165 blue tangs this past week and all with barrier nets and no crowbars.
They also prove the case against the need for drugs to collect fishes... again.

Sure there are lab people who cannot function in the water without chemicals but hopefullly they will be kept in check, to a minimum and never allowed to be role models.
Perhaps they could hire the girls as training consultants to teach them how to collect fishes properly, effectively and sustainably.

Great Gresham but go one step further.
Let everyone know that you support a ban on the use of all chemicals etc. to catch fish for our industry.

And let everyone know that you support the ban on the use of cyanide and the enforcement of American laws, to wit, the Lacey Act against those importers who know or ought to know they are dealing in cyanide caught fish.

Thanks

Wayne

My country banned it by enacting the Lacey Act. PI banned it years ago. In fact, I do not think it is legal to use CN anywhere on the planet so your wish is actually reality. Heck, HLS (HomeLand Security) now controls CN in the US even  Try to get any volume and you get put on a list.

I don't know any nation that allows cocaine to be imported either but it's built nations (where it is illegal but tolerated).

I would support a outright ban on chemicals only if scientists where removed from that equation. I think a mandatory class in the use of quin should be a prerequisite for all of them though as well as monitoring and tracking of it's use and sales. IMO they should even go as far as to log where they used it and what the fall out was (bycatch, er, by-death).

Maybe Steve could do a net training session for Academia.

Thanks Wayne...
But cyanide fishers are much easier to train then scientists.
Many scientists think "more justified" as its for science...and think they have proprietary rights over the reef.
Many fail to relize what their de-facto support of drug collecting has had by their embrace of it.
They set bad examples and gave the Florida quinaldine boys a justification.
Perhaps we could organize some New Guinea collectors to train Florida dopers as well.

Yes, after a few more countries...maybe we can finish the job and train these American hold-outs.

That "ought" word stinks Wayne. There's no reliable CDT and therefore no way for an importer to know. Stop using it.

Additionally try and realize that jumping up and pointing at cyanide every second is earning you the status of background noise. That guy on canreef last week that had the dead Blue Spot Jawfish was looking for help and your maybe it was cyanide post provided a completely useless distraction. All your useless information does is confuse people, take the time to learn about where fish come from and what the issues really are in you want to contribute something.

It's down right offensive to suggest there is CN in Baja, he's basically calling Steve out . It just goes to show how little Wayne knows about how fish are collected. In act, AT LEAST three times on this forum it's been posted they are caught with hook and line

From time to time we all make mistakes in reading or interpreting anothers thread or post.

Midgetwaiter:
Read the jawfish post in canreef.com
Nowhere did I suggest the death of the reefer's fish were as a result of cyanide; quite the contrary.

Gresham;
Read my posts in this thread.
Nowhere did I suggest fish in Baja are caught with cyanide and it is unfortuneate that you would even think that I would suggest that Steve is in any way involve with cyanide caught fish.

What I have learned on this board is that probably more than anyone else Steve is dead against its use and is an industry leader in promoting net caught fish.

I went back and checked, I was wrong, you didn't bring it up. Apology tendered.

I hope you don't discount the point I was trying to make though.
