I would be willing to bet that the LFS had a delivery company bring the freight to them rather than the LFS employee.

Sort of looks like they sent this one on the cheap.

That's what I thought at first too - because that would make sense if a courier didn't know what he was picking up.

I worked in the courier business for years - so that much wouldn't surprise me ;) But according to the reports it was the store's employee that made the pickup.

Mitch, they don't ship 'em in the fancy for show casket. That looks typical of what I've seen at the airport, although usually there isn't a pallet/tray underneath. If it was put on with a forklift that would explain that, but usually they have a special device used to move the caskets and it rolls, it is not "driven" like a fork lift.

I think I would be trying to find a new employee if that was the case.

But then again it is hard to find good help anymore...

Dead Body Shipped to Pet Store Accidentally

Maybe in the past you've received mail that doesn't belong to you. But it's hard to top this: a pet store ended up on the receiving end of a dead body. The pet store is in Philadelphia. It was expecting a shipment of tropical fish. Instead, the store ended up with a crate meant for LifeQuest Anatomical in Allentown. Inside that crate was the body of a man from California. It had been donated to LifeQuest for research purposes. WFMZ's Joscelyn Moes has the story. Reporter Employees of this Pets Plus store in Philadelphia were expecting a thousand dollar shipment.. three boxes.. of tropical and salt water fish. Instead.. >> Mark Arabia Instead of my fish packing list.. I have a dead body packing list. >> Reporter Philadelphia police were called to help sort out this major mix up which happened at Philadelphia International Airport. A delivery driver was sent to pick up the fish from U-S Airways. >> Mark Arabia He did say to em I'm supposed to be picking up three boxes. >> Mark Arabia And he said sorry sir but you're only getting one box. We'll load it for you though.. cause it's a heavy box. >> Reporter When the driver returned to the pet store with a coffin-like crate.. no one wanted to open it.. no one had to. >> Mark Arabia No, no.. the paperwork was good enough. >> Reporter The crate holds the remains of 65-year-old Jon Kenoyer of the San Diego-area. He died of early onset Alzheimer's Disease. His body was supposed to go LifeQuest Anatomical in Allentown.. so samples could be taken for medical research. Kenoyer's widow is taking it all in stride. >> Mary Kenoyer After I thought about it I says this is quite funny cause my husband is a practical joker. So this is his last joke on us. >> Reporter Mary Kenoyer says her husband.. who was a mailman.. hated to fly. >> Mary Kenoyer Oh yes.. he hates to fly so he was getting even with me for putting him on a plane. >> Reporter U-S Airways released a statement saying it was deeply sorry. The airline says the mix up occurred due to a verbal miscommunication between a delivery driver and the cargo representative. As for the pet shop's thousand dollar shipment.. the shop's owner believes the fish have likely used their oxygen supply and died. Joscelyn Moes.. 69 News.

OK - I hadn't seen that particular version of the story. In both the ones I read (the one I linked and another, and the news report I saw on TV) all said they sent an employee. They said that the night before when he tried to pick up he did not have the correct ID (Usually the airline wants to see your driver's license - if he didn't have that, that's no bueno).
