so pretty much all i need is a valve on the return side and adjust to match the in and out flow a little better, eliminating most of the noise?

this is what i planned on doing, but i was wondering if the line would be quieter at a certain position? tell me if im making sense? i dont want it to sound like a toilet bowl thanks

I'm looking to drill my 50gal breeder I just wanted to know if i just arbitrarily pick a spot or do I have to drill in certain spots I'm looking to drill the back glass and trying to keep the holes as high as possible maybe about 3-5 inches from the top of the tank
