  1. Remove dieing coral?

Will the (potentially and most likely) dieing coral cause any spikes in the water parameters though? Being that this is a nano tank (5 gallon) it's SUPER sensative to changes...
  2. Tiny starfish - friend or foe?

I swear, some of them are evil and some are okay. I've had to pull a few off of my Kenya Tree base, and when you pluck them off they rip off the top layer of the coral. I've tried using a turkey baster to blast them with water, but I can't say that it's worked well. It just seems to blow sand...
  3. Remove dieing coral?

Okay... So my power went out a few days ago (see previous post) and everything went to the crapper from there. Anthelia clove - it started out being flat against the rock when I came home. I quickly popped on the filter and lights and hoped for the best. I probably had somewhere around 25...
  4. Leechy Worm Thingie?

Okay, so the picture is horrible, I promise! Anyway - I was looking at what I thought was a turd the other night, totally amazed that something in the tank could poop that big. (emerald crab, two small astrea snails, bunch of astrea stars and unfortunatly some hitch hiker bristle worms). So...
  5. So... my power went out...

So this will probably sound a little odd, but.... I just did a 50% water change a few days ago... is it too soon to do another? (I'm just learning so be nice  ) The LFS told me I don't want to take the 'beneficial bacteria' out of the tank.... -A
  6. So... my power went out...

So I get a frantic call that the power went out at my dad's house (where I keep the nano tank for now.) His fat cow of a girlfriend was calling me in a panic becuase the things in the freezer were going to melt. I rushed to the store and bought ice packs and a battery operated fan. She forgot...
  7. Shrinking Shroom...

My nano tank has been renamed "tank of death" temporarily. Everything else is doing extremely well. The parameters are back to normal (after w/c) and things are growing and looking quite well... Except the mushrooms which I have watched shrink to the size of an eraser and detach themselves...
  8. Shrinking Shroom...

I'm bringing a water sample to my *trusted* LFS tonight to see what they say. I suppose there's always a possibility my test is old or I read it incorrectly. Regardless, I'd rather be safe than sorry later.
  9. Shrinking Shroom...

Ben, Thanks for the reply. I'll try to dig out the digi cam and get a few more pictures, but I haven't the slightest idea where it is right now. The 'shroom seems to be hanging onto the shell by just a little bit. It doesn't appear to have a 'stem' that I can see, so I don't know if that...
  10. Shrinking Shroom...

I apologize for the horrible quality. I'm moving and I'm lucky i could manage to find my cellphone...
  11. Shrinking Shroom...

Now it seems as though it's detaching from the shell it was on. I must be doing something wrong :( [/img]
  12. Shrinking Shroom...

There is no picture yet, for that I apologize up front... I picked up a single shroom at a new LFS that popped up. It was sitting on the bottom of a bare bottom tank, attached only to a small shell. When it was at the LFS, it was a deep red. I brought it home and acclimated it. During this...
  13. ID Please - Pink Prickly Thing

Okay, So I'm thinking that it's sponge too. I braved the elements and stuck my hand in to figure out it if was a softie or not. It's very squishy and smooth on the finger tip. My emerald crab has decided that it's delicious and trys to eat it at any given opportunity. I also noticed that a...
  14. ID Please - Pink Prickly Thing

Oh, and if it helps with figuring it out at all - my emerald crab has discovered where it is now that it's in the open and he finds it VERY tasty. I'm going to have to figure out what to do with it now before he eats it all...
  15. ID Please - Pink Prickly Thing

Okay, So the general idea so far is that it's possibly a sponge. Is there a sure way to find out if it is? I'll have to look up on the internet if there are any specific sponge characteristics that this thing has. I dunno. I do wonder however, what would happen if I were to poke it. That's...
