It seems to me that those working at small or local fish stores are no more competent than those at the large chain stores...so I guess it just becomes a matter of price (unfortunately).
I have a relatively new tank (only about 10 weeks old) and am wondering about algae growth. I have a brown algae that is growing rapidly. I clean the glass surface and in a couple days the algae is so thick I can't see in the tank. I have a ro/di unit that is brand new that I have been using...
it is a 150 gallon tank. I was concerned about drilling below the water level because I don't want to destroy the entire tank if I screw up drilling the hole.
I am interested in drilling a couple holes in my acrylic tank for a closed loop. Since it is currently full of water I was thinking of drilling down through the top and running pvc down from the top and into the water. Does anyone see a problem with this type of closed loop design?

ok so everything I read says not to overfeed the fish as it will cause problems with too much junk in the tank. But how much is too much if they need constant feeding? How much is too much?
I have read a couple different books, but unfortunately they don't address things like "Feather Dusters not staying put". They are too busy discussing the broader concepts.
I have a 150 Gallon tank with 150 lbs live rock. It has a Yellow and Blue Tang in it along with a "Cleaner Pack" (peppermint shrimp, various crabs, scallops, etc.). What should I be feeding the fish and how often? How about the other creatures?
I just placed a couple of large Feather Dusters in my tank. Do these walk around to find a place they like? They seem to keep falling off the rocks I put them on (or maybe they are jumping). Should I just leave them where they fall? Or how do I get them to stay where I want them?
If you have not yet ordered from Foster & Smith or Liveaquaria.com I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I have purchased a number of things and they seem to do a great job.
