  1. Chillers

I am looking for information on chillers. (I did check the archives and only found seven references. I would have expected many, but perhaps I am doing something wrong in my search) At any rate, I am wondering about the pros and cons of a "drop-in" chiller as opposed to an "in-line" chiller...
  2. Propagating Sun Corals

I have had Sun Corals (T. coccinea) for about 6 months. The colony is in the shape of a sphere and I notice the new polyps develop from the side of the parent which enlarges the size of the sphere. Will the colony eventually spill over to neighboring rock? If so, can I selectively encourage...
  3. Kick Ick

Oh boy, now you are going to hear from the "Tang Police" regarding the insuitability of PBs in the home aquarium! Seriously, i would also skip the Kick Ick and just use the garlic. The Ick will likely go away on its own if your tank parameters are otherwise healthy.
  4. What RO devise to use in Chicago?

I have the Kent RO/DI maxima. It is a great unit and I think you will be happy with the RO unit. You may not get 24 gpd, though, depending on your water pressure but depending on your needs you may not need that much water anyway.
  5. Getting another fish

I would get the Powder Blue first and when it gets too big, get the shark!!
  6. Getting another fish

Naesco: It will have fun swimming around in his 150 for a long time until it becomes too large. At that point I am sure he will find it a good (larger) home. Hang in there Dan, you were correct about the tomatoes!!!
  7. Getting another fish

Is there any question---get the Powder Blue that you have always wanted!!! Why be intimidated by a few on the Board???!!
  8. Red Planaria

Mitch: I agree with your feeling about diverstity. My flatworm population is relatively low also but from what I have read it is possible for them to get out of hand. I actually enjoy the challenge of maintaining a healthy well balanced reef where nothing takes over. Thanks for your comment.
  9. Red Planaria

Phil: Thanks for the suggestion but I have never been a big fan of damsels because of their agressive nature. Once in the tank, I would have a difficult time getting them back out without dismanteling the reef. Nice to hear from the "land down under".
  10. Red Planaria

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. Bryan thanks for mentioning that the proper name for these worms is acoel. I did learn that in my research but figured most people would recognize the old term "Planaria" as opposed to acoel.
  11. Red Planaria

Kevin: Thanks for that referral. That is a great discussion. I will keep following the progress. I wasn't aware of that board. I wish I could get some of those shrimp and be part of their experiment.
  12. Red Planaria

Thanks Dan. From what I am seeing they aren't cheap either. I guess I'll stick with the fresh water blasts and I will try rinsing some of the surface LR in fresh water as you suggested, also. I don't like the idea of doing rinses on my corals unless I just swish them in a bucket of sea water...
  13. Red Planaria

Len & Dan: Thanks for your responses. I will try the freshwater turkey blast because that seems the safest. I am glad that I also now have an excuse to get a nudibranch!!
  14. Red Planaria

I have a sudden outbreak of Red Planaria. I have done some research on reasons for the infestation and "treatments" but the information I am getting off the net seems to all be at least 5 years old. The "treatments" range from suctioning to treatment with "Concurat L.". Does anyone have...
  15. Thermometers

You might want to be careful. I used an I/O Thermometer called "Acurite" in the same way and it worked great--for a while. Then I suddenly started getting bizarre readings from the sensor in the water. My guess is that while it can take rain, ice, etc. it may not be resistant to salt. It...
