There was a post about a year ago where someone showed how they had glued a piece on the impellar to stop the chattering noise.

I had the same question last week. The TDS meter read 0 but when I tested for phospahtes I got a reading of .1 comming out of my filter. I replaced my sediment and carbon filters on my 5 stage Mako and the water tested 0 for phosphates. I think you need to test with the TDS and a phosphate...

I did something very similar. Two comments. If you haven't already planned to I would add some baffles in the refugium to seperate the return pump from the refugium. The baffles will help control bubbles being pumped back into the tank.
Also you might want to split off one of the overflows...
