I have dark blue, I like it because it looks like the endless sea beyond. I clean it once a week and just use Kent's acrylic scraper to clean...real easy!
I run it 24/7 as well. I use chempure and change it out every 4-5 months. It's all personal opinion, you will see some of the most crystal clear, stable, awesome tanks utilizing carbon.
Where did you'll get yours? I purchased some raised ones, Queen conchas and it doesn't do jack for my sand bed. Any pics of your sand bed, maybe they sent me the wrong ones,hmmm.

I believe he mentioned the least expensive, why would you need MH for fish only? Let alone 400 watt?? You'll most likely need few fans or even a chiller. PC or VHO will do if you plan on fish only or even softies.
