  1. Instant Ocean problem???

I saw a thread about this not too long ago, with similar concerns. I don't recall many of the details, but essentially, if the tank is stable, the inhabitants healthy, I don't see that a small amounts of residue is a problem. I would simply strain it out, or not draw water from the bottom of...
  2. Cleanup Job (Yuck!)

  3. talk about delivery speed

I'll second that last post...Jason has been very helpful & friendly. Shipping faster than rabbits can reproduce! (And that's pretty fast!) He gets most of my business! Ed
  4. Ideas to prevent critter crunching?

I recently converted my sump into a refugium. It's about 20 gallons, divided into 3 sections: inflow (heaters/skimmer), refugium with 4" DSB, and outflow. The outflow is what concerns me. I have a hermit crab or two in the refugium and thought about adding a snail to keep the micro-algae and...
  5. How big can cube tanks be built?

I bought my acrylic aquarium from Tenecor, in Phoenix, AZ. Got a chance to see the facility when I picked it up last year. They certainly could build you a tank, any size, shape, or configuration your heart desires! Check out: Tenecor Aquariums When I was there, I saw a custom tank that was an...
  6. Fastest Way to Get Coralline Algae Growth?

Don't forget good light and a sunny disposition! Ed
  7. This isn't your daddy's worm

Not only a bristle worm but a pretty small one at that. Wait till it grows a bit. I have a few that are easily 10 to 12 in. long, and occasionally are bold enough to come out to the front of the tank. When that happens everyone in the family runs to see " Bruno ". Have fun! Ed
  8. Red-Legged Hermits?

I have quite a few red leg hermit crabs in my tank, for nearly a year. The coralline algae is doing great, and I have never seen them attacking any algae other than on the substrate. They climb all over the rocks, but I see no evidence of devastation. Hope that helps, Ed
  9. Wood rot...

Good advice from tyoberg. I would talk to the folks at the hardware store to see what they would recommend. Without seeing it myself I feel reluctant to give you advice. However, once the wood has been treated you may want to seal the entire canopy with a good polyurethane varnish. Hope...
  10. Bangaiis & cyanide?

Very odd! I had the same experience lately! Purchased a pair, looked good for a week then got "the dwindles" and died. First one, then the other. #2 also disappeared just like yours, Johnny... No other fish are ill, all parameters are fine, just can't figure out what happened. I thought...
  11. Lots-o-bubbles

Do you see where they are coming from? From the sandbed? Probably just Nitrogen outgassing...that's good. From the return line/pump? May need to throttle back the flow a little if the pump is able to handle it. Others may know more about that. HTH, Ed
  12. Live Sand from beach?

I don't live in Florida...far from it in fact...but I think there is a ban on removing anything from Florida's waters...hopefully others will chime in here... Ed
  13. How important is Alk to softies?

It might be wise to stop the iodine supplementation and simply rely on regular water changes to replenish it. In fact water changes right now may be helpful... HTH, Ed
  14. meq/l or dKH: Let's standardize

    I'll second that! I LOVE meq/l !!!!! LOL! Ed
