  1. tunze wavebox - does it work

Effective is a matter of debate I guess. I saw them working in a larger tank (600g) not too long ago, and I have to honestly say it is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a long time. Yes, it does gently sway the water back and forth, but it seems that it is all it does. Seems like the...
  2. What has been your success rate with aquacultured acros?

We all know in the last 2-3 years we have seen the aquacultured acros take over the majority of the market. It used to be that there was only wild caught, and it seems like all of the sudden the aquacultured pieces started to flood all the online stores. We have seen quite a few different pieces...
  3. Feeding fish affecting SPS corals? YES!!!!!!!!

Well, it has been 14 days since I stopped the pellets. The colors have considerably improved since then. Not 100% back to where it was, but I would say a good 80% back. That is despite me finding that I have the AEFW again and having a couple of corals die as a consequence of them. Regardless...
  4. Feeding fish affecting SPS corals? YES!!!!!!!!

I never said it wasn't.
  5. Feeding fish affecting SPS corals? YES!!!!!!!!

I agree with you and that is what is surprising to me. I would expect more to leak out and be dissolved in the water from the frozen foods than from the pellets that get consumed completely by the fish in seconds. Like I said, everything else has been equal, which is what got me wondering in the...
  6. Feeding fish affecting SPS corals? YES!!!!!!!!

  7. Feeding fish affecting SPS corals? YES!!!!!!!!

Well, I have been home for a couple of weeks on vacation, so I decided to do a little test. A few months back, I had a major turn around on my corals. Things started to grow very well, colors blossoming, etc. Although I had done some major changes in my habits at the same time, I always...
  8. I've never seen an electric bill this large

    $870 last month!!!!!!!! :o :o :o
  9. Things I should know by now VOL II

1/2g every 3 days is nothing. Evaporation is a normal and common thing. Setting up a container with a little hose and a drip to "sort of" supply as much as you evaporate will keep things a lot more stable. Your salinity for one.
  10. Things I should know by now VOL II

Pretty simple really. 1. Fill the sump to the max it would hold. 2. turn the return pump on. 3. wait for about 5 min. for things to equilibrate. 4. Make a mark on the side of the sump where the water level currently is. That mark above is the highest maximum level to put water in the sump or...
  11. Mystery Wrasse Sex...Gender That Is..

I had 2 in a tank for well over a year and they got along great. I also know of a few other people with more than one doing very well. I often wonder about the gender question too, but I am yet to read anything solid that leads anywhere.
  12. Best lighting system for 300 Gallon prop tank?

friend used this type of RM tub for the same purpose and after using several different set ups, he settled with 4 lumenarcs with 175 watt MH fairly close to the water. He left the periphery without rock or corals. I am sure if you raise it some you can light up the entire things pretty well. The...
  13. electric bill!!

Mine went up about $200-250 per month when starting the 1000g SPS sytem.
  14. What's your evap rate?

I vaporate from 8-12 gpd depeding on the temps outside. On cooler days like now about 8 gpd. Mid summer is more like 12 gpd. I do use fans and a chiller. Tank Size? 1000g system Use of skimmer? Yes. Large CC airstone skimmer Open or enclosed top? Completely enclosed tank top. Isolated fromt...
  15. The new Tank but not in wales

Garry: What are your ultimate plans for this system? Is it all going to be a fish only system or are you going to plug in a coral tank later on down the road? Somehow I see a 700g+ reef tank being attached at some point down the road. Reefers don't die out so easily.
