  1. Shipping

Well, I know shipping around now is kinda hectic but I went ahead and had some corals shipped anyways. Good news is that the corals made it, the bad news being that the box was damaged in transit and there is nothing I can do right now. My advice, STAY AWAY FROM UPS! They don't even compare to...
  2. IDing SPS

How should I go about identifying sps corals? Should I take a cross section of tissue and look under a microscope or what? What is a descent book with pics on corallites for different corals? Does Veron's book have it? How should I go about getting tissue off of the coral?
  3. MH LIGHTING

Well, I know this is a very controversial discussion but I thought i'd throw it out and see what kind of replies I got. I'm about to switch from a 75g to a 135g and am wondering about changing my MH's. I currently run 2 400 iwasaki's but really dislike the color, even with a few actinic...
  4. Algae

My 75 reef is currently experiencing some time of green algae. It's not hair algae, it's a small green string algae that is on the rocks in places. I'm also getting a bit of cyano. Total maybe a 3"x3" patch of it all together throughout my tank. What can I do to get rid of all these algaes? I do...
  5. deflated anemone?

I purchased a purple based anemone about a week ago and it's been looking great! At night, when the MH's go off and only the actinics are on, the anemone looks "deflated" and the it's tip look all flat with the mouth sticking out. I feed it regularly (bout once everyother day) and it takes...
  6. electricity

I'm thinking about putting up a 200g oceanic rr tank in a room, but the problem is electricity. How much work/money does it take to put in an extra 20 amp circuit? I would like an electrician to come out and give me a bit more POWER!!! Will need it for something of that size. TIA
  7. MACNA

Well, since I can't make it to MACNA I would like for some of you to take lots of pictures of all the displays and some of the awesome tanks that will be there. I would really like to see what it's like with so many fishheads all around together talking and informing each other. PLEASE bring...
  8. Suitable for seahorses?

I would like to start a seahorse tank. Would a ten gallon aquarium with a small intank protien skimmer with a small powerhead, ten to fifteen pounds of live rock, and quite a bit of caulerpa be able to house a pair of medium sized seahorses?? If not what else would I need? I know ten gallon...
  9. Clown bonding with anemone

I just purchased a mated pair of maroon clownfish and was told that they would accept my ritteri anemone. How long does it usually take for the 2 to bond? TIA
  10. Making a large tank

I was thinking of digging a quite large hole and dumping in quite a bit of concrete for 3 sides of the "pond". then attaching the front peice of acrylic by cementing it in on 3 sides. Heat could become a factor and therefore I might have to use a chiller. In the winter I might have to use a...
  11. Making a large tank

Hello, I would like to make a large saltwater tank, say 800 gallons. I don't want to make it your normal tank however. Would it be possible to go into the backyard and dig a quite large hole and use to wood and a pond liner and make a large pond like tank? I would use 1 peice of acrylic on one...
  12. How hot is too hot?

84 degrees isn't to bad, I just wouldn't let it get any higher if possible. Not suprised your tank is that hot considering you have 1000w of light over your tank. Could have gone with 250's and would have been fine. If you have a sump you can try freezing some RO water or take the plunge and...
  13. Well, the current heat wave has destroyed my tank...

Hey guys, I live in Austin, Texas where the heat down here isn't really doing to much to my tank. Temperatures have been 100+ degrees for the past 25 days. I'm 15 and don't have close to enough money for a chiller and my tank still stays at or below 84 degrees. This is with dual 400 MH and a few...
  14. aptaisa ideas..

I've heard of killing aptaisa with vinegar but have never heard of any success rates or if it is harmful to anything that could be present in a reef tank.. Anyone out there try using this method? Is it safe? Thanks
