  1. disaster! velvet! now what?

Keep in mind that if you are planning to add inverts, corals etc. after you wait it out for the ich to die off and start adding fish, you run the risk of reintroducing it again with the inverts. Maybey you should add them now and start your waiting period over. Like Juck said its not very likly...
  2. VERY Newbie needs advice

Also, much easier to aquascape when you hand pick. You can come up with an idea of what you want your tank to look like and select the pieces that you need to build your vision. Good luck and have fun.
  3. Starting Over - few questions

nori is dried seaweed sheets. You can find it at your lfs or most grociery stores sell it for sushi. Get a letuce clip from your lfs or use an elastic to hold it to a small rock from your tank. My yellow tang loves it. I read somewhere to only leave it in your tank for about half an hour but...
  4. is small cut on tang something to worry about?

thanks He is still there today and seems to be doing fine but the qt is ready to go just in case
  5. is small cut on tang something to worry about?

I added a regal tang into my tank. As always, when I have added a new fish to my tank, the yellow tang took a couple a runs at the regal. As a result, he has a small cut on his side. He is eating and swimming around fine and it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. The colour af the area...
  6. question about flame scallops

No, I woun't be a "repeat customer" for them either. Seeing as how they are a fairly large filter feeder, I wonder how much effect they would have on water quality.
  7. dry vs uncured LR

I was once told to avoid using dry rock because you can never really know for sure why it is dry, ie did it come from a tank that was dosed with copper, in which case the tank crashed and items were returned to your lfs. You might want to look into where the rock came from if possible.
  8. question about flame scallops

thanks. Glad to hear that they're not dangerous to my livestock. I do feed them with Chromaplex (kent marine). I just wish that they would stay in the front of my tank and not hide in the back.
  9. live rock efficiency

Thanks for the responses. My understanding was along the lines of Rabagly's first theory. Thinking that maybey 1-2 pounds of rock per gallon (depending on density) was a guidline that took into consideration that eventualy as it becomes covered with algea there would still be enough surface area...
  10. Hosting Clowns.?

like Juck said, its hit or miss. Different clowns are attracted to different anenomes. Elegence and frog spawn are possibilities that i've heard of. Also, your clown will tack on a whole new personality once it has an anemone/coral to protect
  11. question about flame scallops

I was just reading the Reef.org Beginners guide and under the detritivores section it said that flame scallops were "something to avoid for the general well being of your reef tank." I was wondering what is wrong with them or possibly if there was a site or link where I could read up on them...
  12. live rock efficiency

wouldn't the fact that live rock becomes covered with coralline algea and various encrusting corals effect the efficiency of the live rock. I was thinking that since bacteria live deep within the holes and pores found on the rock, once they are covered over with coralline algea, corals etc, the...
  13. damsels for cycling

I agree 100% shawnz28. I just wanted to help inform others who are new to marine aquariums that this isn't really a good way to start. I guess you have to consider the year the books you are reading were published.
  14. What in Neptune's World?

    phyllida variosa
  15. damsels for cycling

Hi everyone, just found this site the other day and I reaaly like what I've seen so far. Really helpful. I wanted to share this experience with anyone who is thinking about doing this. It seems that many of the books that I have read say to use a damsel to help your initial tank cycle. They...
